daughter is home for a few weeks and we made a trip to the pet store. while she was off getting dog and cat food I went to get Fiona some worms if they had them.

well I have seen comments on here about wishing the pet stores trained the staff...and yeah I do too. so now I am here to ask if what I was told is true....I asked if they had super worms...she told me yes and asked me what I was going to feed them to. I told her an adult bearded dragon...she said yes they can eat them but I need to cut the heads off first......I am a country girl not much gets to me but I had to warm up to Fiona...then I had to warm up to the crickets..but there is no way I am cutting the heads off these worms...just the thought of this worm chewing up poor fionas tummy was more then I can think about. I was not thinking it was true but went with the wax worms just incase. she told me to keep them in the frig, and they would stay dormant until I took them out to feed them. well we made the trip home, I opened the container to feed them and every one of them was dead....all 50!

so if any of you will share websites to order form would be a wonderful help I was going to order from the pet store but after today I will try elsewhere.

thanks so much in advance.

I've heard of people cutting the heads off of meal wormS but I've heard that's also because of a rumor that the worms will chew their way of the stomach, which is not true. Others say its because the worms can bite, which they can a bit. But not to to point where they will really injure the dragon. Those scales are tough.

super worms are a different type than meal worms. I've fed them to all my reptiles for years, never had an issue. Most people also recommend them over the smaller meal worms. All you have to do at pet stores is look in the container to see if they are dead. They wont move much if they have been in the fridge until they warm up
they aren't dead though. you will know they are dead when they are black, dark brown or if there a lot of shell casings in the container.

the store I worked at never kept the super worms in the fridge, the container even says not too. They should be room temp. Only meal worms and wax worms should be in the fridge. But I wouldn't worry about them hurting your beardie. They usually crush the worms so well that its long dead when they swallow. Just don't dump a ton in the tank and leave.

It's a myth about super worms or any worms eating through their stomach. If you watch your beardie eat a super worm, you will see that it completely chomps it to pieces with its teeth. That and the addition of stomach acid, there is no way a super is going to survive that.

I buy most of my feeders online. When I did buy supers at the store, I would open all of the containers and sift through to make sure their wasn't any dead ones. My Petco actually puts dates on top of their containers so I would always start with the closest date which were the containers at the back of the shelf.

No, I get my crickets from a Josh's Frogs and horn worms and super worms from Great Lakes Horn worms. I like them because they use UPS as their shipper and I have very poor experiences with USPS. There are other places that you may get them cheaper. Just sometimes in a pinch I will go to Petco and get something.

I fed 1-of my big dragons a super and she got bit on the side of her mouth. I didn't know a dragon could move that fast but she finished him off[crunch, crunch and that was forgotten about. But I still got her supers. And I fed them left-over salad that she didn't eat then I keep a container of salad that I make up every 2-days -1-for the dragons, and 1-for crix; so I just feed that to all. Mealworms as well. and I clean them every 2-days. Today was salad making and worm cleaning and cricket cleaning.river-7
