Well, since I work Sunday-Friday now Saturday is me and my wifes "big day out" so to speak. Today I suggested we go to the Abita beer brewery (anyone in Louisiana knows all about Abita beer). After leaving the brewery (with a slight buzz due to free beer and having not eaten yet) we decided on a whim to drive over to the Insta-Gator gator ranch and hatchery in Covington. (due to it being a spur of the moment decision I did not bring my camera with me sorry). Anyway it was very fun, got to watch them feed a few of the 4ft and under crowd, was able to have a intelligent conversation with one of the keepers (he was genuinely excited after my first question, there were 3 gators in one of the holding pins with depigmentation on their faces and he was surprised when I asked what was causing the color to go away lol he said I was the first person that didnt think it was scars). We also got to handle a ton of the baby gators that they had in a little pool. it is surprising how training with some reptiles branches over into others. I have dealt with large and small monitors and of course our lovely beardies, but never gators. oddly enough the same handling "techniques" for monitors translate over to gators. Most fun I have had in a while. Just thought I would share the story.

They are unsure, it happens in 1 of every hundred or so. They think it is either genetic or due to captive diet. Unfortiunately no one has offered up funding for reearch into this anomaly.

thats interesting...makes me wonder more. I hate when there is no answer to questions. I am the kind of person who has a million questions about everything. Most kids grow out of it but I never did.

Would love to see pics next time you go back.
