Hi, new to the site, but had beardies for ~10 years, always adopted/looked after temporarily. Adopted my current boy Bruce about 4 years ago, so he’s about 8 now, around 2 years ago he stopped pooping regularly. Like went from pooping once a week like clockwork, then 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, until eventually he went a full 2.5 months with no poop! Now it varies between a week and a month, no idea why. Went to the vet who looked him over, he’s in good health, well hydrated, no parasites, no impaction, and is generally active and alert.
He hates baths, becoming very withdrawn for a good day or 2 afterwards, but I make sure he’s hydrated and make sure he goes in at least once a month. He otherwise enjoys (or at least tolerates!) being handled, and likes running around the room.
Lighting is a 30W Repti Glo 10.0 UVB with reflectors, and he has a 150W ceramic bulb with thermostat. 35°C at one end, other end hovers around 30°. Viv is approx 115x50x40cm, and has a hide, ledge, a couple of rocks and a log bridge thing for scenery.
He gets served fresh rocket every other day, dusted with calcium, and once/twice a week gets 4 chopped blueberries. He also gets 10-20 locusts per week, changed from crickets about 6 months back. He also gets 5-6 waxworms twice a week, and occasionally some mealworms thrown in with his rocket.
He used to be on sand substrate but as soon as the pooping got weird I moved him to newspaper in case that was it (spoiler: it wasn’t).
He hasn’t pooped for a little over a month at this point, and today he pooped out a reddish/brown slightly lumpy looking urate. He is still perky and running around, but I’m aware problems are best addressed as early as possible, and the colour/bumpiness is new.
Wondering if anyone recognises this, and if so should I take him down the vet? I have in the past simply taken him straight down, but A: I now don’t have a car, B: there’s a pandemic, and C: every time I’ve gone down they’ve told me he’s fine and charged me £50, so thought I’d give here a bash this time!
(To clarify if no one tells me ‘oh this is what that is, here’s what to do’ I will end up taking him down, always better safe than sorry and £50 for peace of mind is not the end of the world!)
