Alright, so I'm going to explain this as best and as detailed as I can so bare with me please.

Just to sum it up, I'm a very concerned beardie mom, I try not to be but I just can't help it lol

Well I got home from work today to find my baby girl beardie Sydney sitting next to her water bowl/bath, which was fine since she usually likes to hang out on her log. So I got some house chores done then came to sit down in the living room (where her cage is) and noticed that she was "freaking out". All of a sudden she went into her water bowl and started rubbing her face against the edge, this went on for a couple of minutes then she got out and started rubbing her face against her substrate and the outside of her water bowl. After she did that she kind of calmed down, but not for long, she then started "digging" primarily with her back legs and somewhat with her front(she did that and scooted around). This (so far what I've mentioned) went on for 5 minutes or so.

Thinking she was calmed down since she got back on her log, I sat down next to her cage just to watch her, that's when she started a whole other batch of weirdness. All of a sudden her belly got really big and extended and she started puffing out her beard (it never turned black) and then bringing it back to normal (kind of like in a breathing motion).

After all that I finally picked her up (I feel like a bad mommy for just watching her) and started a nice warm bath for her, not sure why but that was my first instinct, and kept her in there for 5 minutes then took her out. I dried her off then checked her out for mites, just incase but didn't find anything ( believe me, I was using a magnifier and making sure I looked all over her and her cage). I took her and sat down after I checked her out and she returned back to normal, snuggled and fell asleep nestled into my neck and we stayed like that for an hour before I returned her back to her cage and she acted like nothing happened, relaxed in her cage and fell asleep when I turned her lights off.

So basically I have no idea what was going on with her, I'm hoping that someone here would help provide some insight. She's a healthy, happy, etc beardie with no problems other than what I just described.

Hopefully that wasn't to hard to comprehend, if it was I'll try my best to clarify for you guys!!

Help?!

All that you have described are classic shed activity. Rubbing to help loosen the shed & scratch the itch, expanding capable body parts to also help release the old skin.

Your instincts were right in giving it a bath, a warm soak will help relieve some of the itch & soften/loosen the old skin making the shed, a not so unpleasant experience for it. A warm soak every couple of days, along with a daily snout to tail misting while it is in the shedding process is always a good plan. The old skin will release well on it's own, in it's own time when it is ready, there is nothing more that you need to do.

Just an added FYI: It is also quite common for some BDs to have a diminished appetite & have cranky periods when shedding.

This is all quite Normal & no cause for concern ;).

My beardie will do the same thing, and even scratches his face with his back leg like a dog! He likes rubbing his face onto the rocks too.
What I do with him is after a bath, I'll get some fresh aloe vera from my plant and just rub it on the parts of his skin where he's shedding. He's had a few patches of bad sheds in the past and it has helped greatly. It acts kind of moisturizes the skin and is easier for them to shed.

Thanks guys, I've owned my fair share of beardies and own a little boy along with my little girl and they have never shown that type of behavior before shedding (at least not when I'm watching lol). They both get baths with daily misting so I've got that covered ;)

I guess I need to learn to be less concerned lol, oh well

Once again, thanks for your input!!! :)
