I just got my baby beardie 5 days ago and I can't get him to drink. I have a bowl of water in the cage and I've even tried a syringe and I can't get him to drink. Any suggestions?

They don't always drink out of a bowl of water. Usually if it's not moving they aren't interested. When you give him a bath drip water on the tip of his nose, he should eventually start licking the water off. When I do that to mine, once they get a taste of the water it's like crack and they keep wanting more. Someone also mentioned to put worms in the water.

It's also possible that he is drinking out of his bowl while you aren't looking.

Ok Ty! I'm nervous about giving him a bath he's only about 3/4mo old and I've never done it! They are so fast lol

Here's how my breeder explained bath time: When they're small just use the bathroom sink, being sure he can't fit through the drain hole up top. They should get a bath every day, this is how they get their water. I was told not to leave a bowl of water in the cage, as it is too much humidity for them. Start with a small amount of water, make it warm, not too hot. Be sure he's in there at least five minutes. Don't leave him there, pet him the entire time! Mine is a little antsy sometimes, but usually loves the petting and relaxes as he gets his daily spa time. Mine is now seven months old and I got him back in September 2014.

I know there are many different opinions out there, which is why I wanted to explain to you that this is the information I got from my breeder, whom I trust.

Best of luck!

I was always against a water bowl in the tank too but the humidity should be around 30%. Unless you are somewhere very warm, a small water bowl is not going to cause a problem with humidity. This winter has been so dry that I have water bowls and a humidifier going in the room and I barely hit 20%.

Jules has great advise about the bath. You want him to feel comfortable so talking and holding him during the process will make him more comfortable. I give mine baths in the tub. It gives them lots of space to swim around and mine are weird, they like to stand under the shower head LOL!

Thanks for the advice! I gave him a bath just a little bit ago and he seemed to not mind it too much! I'm just scared of not getting the temp right! I put him back in his cage to warm back up! He seems to be doing ok so hopefully I did it right: )
