Vision and mouth questions

I ask this because Oscar, 5, misses his food a lot. I know they miss but he is missing his salad and worms too. The crickets can be fast so I understand that but even with the crickets he misses when they are not even moving, they move after his failed attempts. He also digs in his dishes prior to eating. Is the digging in the dish just what he does or is this so he can find his food. I first noticed he digs when his worms are gone but I thought this was just instinct of trying to dig more worms out of the dirt but after watching him closer I saw he does it with all food. If there is nothing wrong then it is funny to watch, before he goes for a cricket he will scratch the ground with his front feet like a bull ready to charge, then off he goes.

The mouth questions. When he eats he slobbers and sometime it drips. It kind of reminds me of my dog begging for food. Also sometime food does not stick to his tongue, it gets about half way to his mouth and falls off his tongue. It does not happen all the time I would say 1 out of 4 bits of food. Does the tongue lose its sticky over time? He still eats all his food, just takes a couple more attempts. Any ideas or am I once again just worrying too much.

Slobbers and drools ? Tongue not sticky ? Oh, Sandra.. did you recently take this fellow for a checkup ?
I think there might be something amiss with him.
Is he rather lethargic ?
What are his basking temps?

To slow those crickets down, you can place them in a bag in the freezer for like 4-5 minutes.

My first thought with the missing was his balance. That can be caused by a vitamin B deficiency which is an easy remedy. The slobbery mouth and drool makes me think of a respiratory issue. I agree, unless LK has some other ideas, but a vet appointment might be in your best interest.

What are the temps in your tank on the basking spot?
Measured with a digi or a temp gun?

He is not lethargic at all, he moves around his viv a lot and when I bring him downstairs he walks around the living room and explores. He woke me up this morning with all his walking around on the tile, he wanted his salad and I was not awake yet. His basking temps are 95.6 taken with a prob. but will recheck them again now just to be sure.

If it is vitamin B what can I do to fix it?

Brewers Yeast.

Is this "drool" clear or colored?
Check his mouth for a cheezy discharge. If not present, and there is no swelling......all should be fine unless you see something from the nasal cavity.

Why don't you just leave the probe directly on the basking spot? That way you can always keep an eye on the temperature. If you are going to take it in and out, make sure when you put it in to check the temp you leave it in for a long while. It takes some time for the probe to read the exact temp.

It is clear and only happens when he eats.

I take it out b/c he got his leg tangled on the wire and I am worried he will hurt himself. He is kind of clumsy. I take a reading twice a day and when I do I leave it for about an hour.

I'd try to bump those basking temps up just a bit.

The "drool" should be nothing to worry about. Keep an eye out for eye or nasal discharge of any kind or any kind of lesion on the "gum" or mouth.

Gina recommended vitamin B complex to me one time when I was asking if there was something else I might try!!! My Dragons LOVE it and perk up when I give it to them!!! I get it through Beautiful Dragons!! I love buying from her. No matter what the size of the sale she always has a little note thanking me for the sale and for helping her with her rescues!!

If you haven't yet...check out her site!!
