Hi there, we just got 3 new dragons after months and month of research. One of them, our profile pictures is our keeper, the other two we basically took as well, they were in poor health. They did not have the correct environment, no uvb lights, just placed outdoors. Very very skinny and dehydrated. We have had them 5 days now and a huge improvement in all of them.. The smallest is a tamale, they are all from same clutch. They are 1 years old. The female is half their size, she's about 12 inches the other two are 18. We have been feeding her like a juvenile she is so very skinny. She can only get down about 16 crickets a day. We are feeding her salad, collard greens, butternut squash and a few carrots. She can't eat many crickets due to exhaustion. One of her nostrils looks completely covered. We think it's an old plug that never came out. When she gets stimulated she can't catch her breath due to only one nostril and it's very small at that. Any advice for both of these questions? I'm attaching a picture of her size and both nostrils you can visibly see the right side closed.
Thanks.

Good for you !!! She may require a few soaks to get that plug loosened up. I hesitate to recommend oils - but that is exactly what i am going to do. A TEENY TINY dab of - I like - coconut oil. And i do mean TEENY TINY. Kinda like removing ear wax from your kid - only this is - well, you know. Maybe - if she will let you - after the stuck shed has moistened up a bit, massage around her nostril - she may be able to work it out. I wouldnt consider this to be life threatening, but a vet could probably go in and take care of that pronto. Let her eat what she wants. She'll get better-er!

Welcome to the forum! Glad to hear that you took these sweet critters in! Sad that they are in poor shape :( I hope that with some proper lighting and food they can make a recovery. This sweet girl looks soo skinny :( From what it looks like due to her previous living conditions..It looks like her face/jaw area is deformed? MBD? I would have a vet take a look at her to see if she needs additional help to get in better shape. Maybe using the coconut oil while she's sleepy so she doesn't fight ya too much messing with her nose.. (I had a wild bird I had to rescue as a tiny baby chic and she had 1 nostril plugged after many warm qtip "bath" water I VERY slowly and carefully had to use a safety pin to get it cleared OMG I was scared to death she would move her head but she stayed still and I got it out)...

good luck and keep us posted

Thank you for saving them I have alot less experience so I'll leave the advice to the pros. I just want to put a voice to the little guys and say thank you.

They may have parasites. A vet visit would be wise for fecal test for parasites.

Poor babies :( good for you for rescuing them. I agree with feeding them like a juvenile, heck even like a baby for now. I recently rescued a girl that was abandoned in an apartment. I have no idea how long but for the first 2 weeks I fed her 3x a day and dusted EVERYTHING alternating between calcium with D3 and a multivitamin. They said she was probably around a year old but I still have a real warm basking area for her. I've had her for 3 weeks now and she's gained 77g and I think she is getting ready to shed.

A vet check would be a good idea to check for parasites but the vet could also give her a shot of calcium and evaluate for MBD. Not seeing the rest of her body, her feet look pretty good. Her eyes look swollen but it could be because she is so thin they just look big.

I agree with the baths. Not only will it help to get that stuck shed out of her nose but you can maybe get her to drink some water and gets some hydration. With my rescue, the first few baths were very warm with a tiny little bit of coconut oil in it. One to hopefully help her scales and two, to help get rid of her stinky smell. Don't pull anything out of her nose though, there is a small piece of cartilidge that is always supposed to be there and you don't want to pull it out. You can take your wet finger and rub across the nose though and that might help loosen what is stuck.

Update,
Forgive me, I posts this update in the wrong place in the forum, I'm a newbie.

AS OF JAN. 6th
We have been working her nostril daily with a lukewarm wet qtip, no luck in removal, she gets baths daily now because she has pretty much stopped wanting to eat, I want to keep her hydrated. She has a slight slant in her lower jaw, how do you know if she has MBD? If she does, what's going to happen to her?? Is there a cure? We have moved her a bit closer to the uvb light today, she stopped wanting to eat yesterday, she had only 4 crickets then became uninterested. No greens yesterday, she refused them even from my hand. today no greens, 2 crickets. She is half the size of her siblings, 12 inches they are close to 20 inches. Any suggestions. Thank you, concern parents..
