Hey everyone, okay so I have talked with a few of you about this on my intro page, but I figured I'd post in the correct spot. Ok, so I do want the correct lighting for my beardie, so to be specific, I'll include a picture as well, I have a 40 gallon tank, id like to set the lighting on top of the cage. Here is a picture of my setup, as you can see he can get pretty close to the top. So what do you guys think for uvb lighting?

These are ur options for “best” in my opinion, t8s are more of for aquatic animals, you want t5 10.0 or the arcadia 12% fixture with bulb.

Now…….. some MVB (all in one bulbs) can be “okay” But the same issues fall on those as do the coil bulbs , to much uvb in a concentrated stream or little to none at all, mvbs are SUPER touchy, basically if it gets moved while its on, knock off a week of its usefulness, heres what ive come to understand about uvb, for “most” lizards “coil”/compact/mvb can be “okay” , BUT for bearded dragons and agamid lizards such as uromastx’s that WILL sit under the uvb all day long, it HAS to be top quality, the uvb HAS to be spread throughout the enclosure or else its like a magnifying glass of uvb. This is the bulb i use, and the reptisun fixture above is what i have, I prefer its slim profile over the arcadia.

Also, in no way am I trying to be rude, but ur dragons eyes look irritated, and you already know why, uvb/the sand substrate, please get the sand out of there, he also looks dehydrated (wrinkles in the skin is the give away) , run his snoot under faucet on low, let him lap up some water.

I tried the water thing, he didn't drink any, maybe after work I'll put him in the tub for a bit. Warm water? Also he has some water over his food as well as a little but of fruit, so that should help

Its hard to tell if they’re drinking, just keep trying, If he never gets in his water dish id remove it, its just adding unnecessary humidity and taking up vital space, if you mist his salad/drip water on his head atleast every other day and stop the dry bugs he should be fine on water intake.

The UVB needs to be certain distance and placement --- and depending on the screen will determine placement-- I see only stick ons for temp gauges --- please get a digital probe thermometer --- they are the most accurate for temps -- what tube bulb do you have a T 5 or T 8 ?

It will also say T 5 or T 8 on it please look there is a different in distances and placement for the bulb --- T 8's are not strong enough to go thru screens and they need to be changed out every 6 months and inside the tank -- the T 5's can sit on top of screen but it MUST be a wide hole type screen any fine mesh it too will need to go inside the tank -- and distance is different from there placement too
