Is it just me or does everyone think the same I'm fed up of seeing bearded dragons either going for next to nothing or for free and people are snapping them up going into something they don't have a clue about yes we're all beginners but at the end of the day there isn't no hard ship in doing research first and if you do really want a bearded dragon you will do the research just a quick rage

I'm with you Tammy. I remember when I first got my Mali Uromastyx I spent over a month researching all that I could about them. When I would see them housed in pet stores I was infuriated with the cage conditions. For example there can absolutely be no water in the Uromastyx habitat as any humidity can be detrimental to them. Not that this rule applies to Beardeds but if pet stores are ignorant to basic Bearded necessities then imagine what an impulsive shopper will do. It's this stupidity that has caused invasive species in parts of the country where people don't research these reptiles then when they grow too large or they can't take care of them, set their reptiles free. Sorry for my rant.

I'm totally 100% behind you some of the beardy set ups I've seen are completely wrong I'm like if people just done a day of research it would show them how wrong their doing it let alone doing research for a month or more I done research for almost a 12 month before I had my dragons

What's confusing too is that so many websites and breeders do different things and have varied theories on everything from diet to habitat structure. If you can believe this I've seen a breeder online that feeds his Beardeds SCORPIONS! I can't make this stuff up.

I think what infuriates me the most are parents that buy reptiles for their children without doing any research. It's one thing for the kid to do research on the animal they want but the parents need to realize that they need to research too because they are the ones that need to provide food and medical care to this animal. Plus after a few years, the parents are the ones that are going to be the caregiver after the child gets bored and wants something else!

I'm definitely with you there patsyB I have a four year and she's an intelligent four year old she's asked me for her own dragon and she's asked me for frogs I've told her she can hold and pet my bearded dragons and she can help with feeding times she knows she's got to wash her hands straight after handling the dragons and their food and she's know she's got to wait for either me or her dad to be in the room before she can handle them as for the frogs I've told her to wait till she's older ands she's a big girl if she wants one at the age of 15/16 she can have one because I think that's the age children can realise their responsibilities until then she will have to make do with what ever I have

I've seen that too Patty. I actually went to a small exotic pet store where the owner had to convince an customer with their young son to not purchase a copperhead rattle snake. The snake was not for sale but the owner insisted on trying to purchase it for his young son! The owner, infuriated, showed the customer what it's like to feed them with a live rat which was enough to convince him to not try to purchase. There are good exotic pet stores where the owners care about the animals and won't just sell to anyone who seems irresponsible.

It's good when you find pet shops like that but some pet shops just think about the profit and not the welfare of the animal and it's the same with private sellers they just think of the profit I got 6 bearded dragons and when I bought my second pair of dragons I was told they were 8 weeks old when I seen them I thought differently I took them home weighed and measured them and got hold of a reptile specialist to find out the my that my thoughts were right and they were only between 1/2 weeks old and they're still going strong now and love there food just got to get them used to vent handled now as they're not to fussed on it

I meant Patsy!

You get a pass Ben, don't let it happen again LOL! J/K

I remember years back on the frog forum there would be so many kids asking us for help because their frog was sick and their parents didn't think a frog needed to go to a vet. It was so heartbreaking and it made me so mad these parents would make their kids deal with this on their own. I got a frog that got real sick and I struggled with the attitude of the people around me telling me it didn't need a vet. I finally told them that I chose to care for frog, she didn't choose to come live with me. So it was my responsibility to make sure she got the best care possible, she's was a living breathing thing. When I took her to the vet and told them my story they told me about this guy that would bring his fish in to have tumors removed. Now THATS love!

Hahaha! If I know what's good for me I'll always remember to call you PatsyB!
It's amazing how little common sense people have when it comes to pets.

I agree with you all, but my friend just got a job at a small pet store and he found out that that pet store is great. They take great care of the pets and won't sell any animal to people that are uneducated about them or if the animals stressed! I was amazed to see that, I even talked to a long time worker there and she told me about how they try their best to take care of all the animals
It really warmed my heart [emoji4]
