To seal, or not to seal...

When our hatchling beardie is older, we want to move from paper towels to tile on the bottom of his enclosure. We'll build a dig box, too. I cannot seem to find a straight answer on-line, so I'm asking you brilliant people: With natural (or rough) ceramic or slate tile, do I HAVE to seal it? Everyone talks about sealing grout, but few discuss sealing the actual tile, so I am confused. Can I just get slate tile from Lowe's and use it? If it must be sealed, what is safe to use? Thanks for your advice!!!

Hello, I've never used tiles but I would assume if the tiles are close enough together that you wouldn't have to seal it.
