I dont have a dig area for my juvenile. Is this something that is recommended and what material should be in the dig area?

I recommend a dig area, some dont, depends on your ability to care correctly for the lizard, if you’re a capable person, who is responsible about proper care and cleaning then substrate should prove to be no issue, however there’s some substrates that are huge no-nos, stay away from sand (the only acceptable sand is “play sand”) i have bark chips in my enclosure (but i don’t recommend them, to many what ifs) (maybe for an adult) if i were u id look up “bioactives” for bearded dragons (you dont have to add bugs or moisture) but a blend of substrates IS what id recommend, sand20% potting soil30%(no fertilizers) leaf matter, some bark pieces, these are better and hold shape for digging.

It is a personal choice :) your lizard should be fine either way. I do think that digging is good enrichment, but I don't do loose substrate personally. If you want to, you have to make sure your husbandry is right and that you use the mix Skybug suggested.
