Tile issues with viv

I’ve had syrax on tile since I got him pretty much, today he was running around like a mad man and one of his nails got stuck and he’s ripped it off. Two questions, number one what’s the likely hood he’ll grow it back. Two, how can I make sure it doesn’t get infected. I feel like a horrible owner!

Follow up, I now want to switch to a lose substrate, any good suggestions?

You can use some unpasteurized honey on it to keep infection away Manuka is good as an example - I still have tile in my tank 2 pieces running width wise middle of tank it sits on a black matt from Zens Habitat cut to a 4x2x2 tank -- if your adamant about going to loose I will see if I can have someone make some suggestions --

I am, I might keep a couple pieces. But I’ve also heard that having them on tile can cause joint issue, and now this. I’d feel a lot better if there was no risk of it happening again.

Is there any chance it’ll grow back?

I dont think so -- Blaze did the same thing and he hasnt grown his back and his toe is fine -- I got someone looking at the post see what they suggest for loose --- you can also get some textured NON adhesive shelf liner as well cut to the size of the tank -- I went w/ the Zens matt and I like it alot - it has cushion and does not heat up as well -- I kept the two pieces of tile and it keeps the nails down -- for some reason they do like that tile --

Thank you, I hope it grows back there’s still a pice of the clear part of the nail there so maybe there’s a chance.

If the base is intact it 'might' grow back.
For loose I used 50/50 play sand and reptisoil. (You can add excavator clay also)
If you get top soil at a hardware store READ THE INGREDIENTS most have cow, chicken or both manure in them. Thats just asking for health issues. Also loose substrate gets really dusty. And it will coat your uvb and block it's efficiency.
Personally I recommend none adhesive shelf liner or the mats from Zen habitats. It's the best 50 bucks I ever spent. It don't soak through. They have good grip. It is cushioned so no hip problems. And best of all it's friggen easy to clean the poop up and to sanitize.
Hope this helps
