Came home tonight about 8 and Orion was laying low with his eyes open on the perch lounge I made for him with some twine. I put my hand above the screen. didnt flinch at all. I said something to Orion, nothing. stomach wasnt moving either.. Even when I moved the screen back nothing. My heart stopped!

soon as i petted its head it jolted out of its trance.

do they sleep with eyes open???

oh wow! I think that my heart would have stopped if I was in your shoes!! I have never noticed mine sleeping with his eyes open ~ not to say they don't~just that i havent noticed!
glad to hear though that he was fine afterall!!

ya and Orion was really dopey after that when I took him out. almost like he was in a trance. after a few minutes he perked up. strange guy.

My guy does this from time-to-time which leads me to believe they do sometimes trance out. He's 17 months but he's been doing this for a least a year (brumation season or not). I think it's kinda like a bored stare, where their focus is on something else to the point they can't move until you jolt them out of it......I get like that too sometimes. Wouldn't worry about it IF all else is fine.

I've had the same experience before! not nice! it never looks like my girl is breathing when she's sleeping, literally theres no movement detectable in her chest its so weird!
