We took the kids to the Children Museum today and the Reptile Society was there. One of the girls had a Horned Lizard and I fell in love with it. I learned from getting Slyder that what you read on the internet is not all that good. I am trying to find a HL forum that I like but also wanted to run it by you all since everyone here seems to know about many different critters too.

These are the horny toad lizards? Like the ones that spit blood from their eyes right? I don't know of any forums for them but I know a decent amount on their care. Be ready to order TONS of harvester ants. This should make up most of their diet and then you can throw in small crickets or worms too.

yes they are also known as horny toads and shoot blood out of their eyes. I know they eat harvester ants but don't know how much. I found a place that sells 500 for $10. Don't think I am going to get one as cute as they are. I don't want to keep anymore bugs then I already am and I can't find enough credible care info on them. I will not take one on with out knowing how to care for it properly.

Thats the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Wonder how many times a day they can do that. Do they ever run out of blood or is it like the venom from a snake, separate from the body's blood supply . . . .

I'm not sure but I would think that the blood used to squirt out of their eye is the same blood that gets circulated through the rest of the body. I'm sure it takes a lot out of them and once they resort to that, they seek shelter until they can rebuild strength and blood supply. Just my guess though.

Can you buy what? The horned lizards or the ants? The answer is yes to both unless you live in a state where they are native and only then I think they aren't allowed.

I find the Thorny Devil to be a tad bit cooler but I love them both.

I like the armadillo lizard. I found on with a full set up for only $70 but was too late, he was already sold
