here are some pics of our little dude:
The set up has since been switched around... we removed the background b/c the crickets were eating it, and I changed how I had my lighting set up thanks to Germs excellent advice... also, I am removing the dial thermometers as soon as I get my thermometer gun in the mail : )

Cute li'l guy ...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news 'Again', but a "Temp Gun" type thermometer won't give you accurate temps in your type of set up ....

In order to take the temps, you would have to lift the screen, which at the same time moves your lights, so accurate temps can not be taken with a Temp Gun. For enclosures with a full screen top, with the heat fixtures on top, Digital with a sensor is the only way to go.

grrrr.... MANY people have told me that the temp gun was an excellent way to gauge temps, but they failed to mention all the specifics... wish I knew the info before buying one.... well, it will come in handy when we get our exoterra terrarium where the doors open in front... or maybe we'll build our own set-up... i've been looking into that and I think it's something I might like to try...

I would love to build my own setup for my beardie. But we bought a $200 tank so I guess we will use it for a while. The nice thing about building your own is you design it anyway you want....light position, ventilation, climbing etc etc. Germ is so right about the temperature gauge. Get one that has a probe so you can put it directly under the basking spot. They are cheap from Ebay....I spent a whole dollar for mine....shipping cost more!!

I did the same thing to avoid buying multiple digital thermometers... at least I have one tank that I can use it in! Get a 40gal breeder turtle tank, they're awesome!!! I love it. Can set the lights on the removable sectioned screen top if you absolutely have to move anything big in or out you can do that from the top, but the front is a slider you can open to access general maintenance and getting your BD in and out.
