Hi everyone,

Is it true that the bigger the tank the larger your lizard will get? Just curious if there is any truth to that.
Thank you :)

Along with proper food, and husbandry I believe it is lol. I think you are being the best owner by giving him/her the biggest tank you can. They are ok as babie's in a 20-long as it's easier for their temps but as you know they grow fast so I buy the biggest tank I can so I don't have to buy twice Hope this helps JagerAnd a smaller tank[5-gal;] could stunt his/her/ growth.

Thanks river-7, I have mine in a 50 gallon and he is 19" but has stopped growing for a little bit. I haven't found any 60 gallon as of yet that has the front doors on it. I am to short to have one with the top opening, even on tippy toes I wouldn't be able to reach in LOL :)

I have a exoterra "wide large". It's 36 x 18 x 18. Idk how many gallons that is tho I want to say like 42. In your opinions is that big enough for him to live his life in? Or should be upgraded as an adult?

I believe that would be large enough for an adult. I think they are fine in a 40gallon + . From what I understand, and if I am incorrect hopefully someone will correct me, a 40 gallon is fine but the larger it is the happier they are due to more space to move around in.

@cody I have the same tank it's supposedly equivalent to 40 gallons. Dexter is 2 and I haven't measured her recently but she's been going through a bunch of tail sheds lately. Last measurement was last month and she is 18.5 inches and she is doing just fine in her tank. She's been around the 18 inch mark for the last year now. She likes to climb so she has a ledge and a hammock and not too much stuff on the floor. She also gets taken out daily to run around if she wants.

Now, Luci is in the same size tank has always been in that tank since we got him and he is shorter than Dexter and he is about 17 inches and he's been this for awhile now. So I don't know if having a bigger tank necessarily makes a bigger dragon. I think it all has to do with the genetics of the dragon. Luci eats like a pig both veggies and bugs. He's a bit heavier than Dexter and his head is a tad bigger he's just short.

No, enclosure size does not dictate dragon size.
Thank goodness! I got pretty stressed out there for a second. If/when breeders start breeding 'toy' dragons i.e. toy dogs I'll be all in. Who wouldn't want a little, sprite guy running and hoping around all the time!?
