Hello everyone, so many of you may be familiar with my bearded dragon Cleopatra, my 12 year old beardie. Who is doing great regardless of a few circumstances... So long story short she has been recently healing up from a small case of tail rot due to some very stubborn shed that is still a little present. But there is no infection at all and the dead part of her tail came off very cleanly. She still has been getting vitamin shots to help get rid of the stuck shed, I also have been giving her 3 baths a week to help ease the shed off. So today as I was checking her tail and massaging it to help increase the circulation throughout her tail in case any stuck shed is still constricting it. I noticed a hard bit in the very end of her tail and was worried if her tail was dying again, so I pressed on it to see if she would react and next thing I know her scales come completely off revealing blood and flesh underneath! Good news though no tail rot .... Anyways I put unpasteurized honey on the wound and called it a day I’m just wondering if I should do anything else or if I should call my vet? She didn’t react at all and isn’t black bearding so she isn’t in pain I also have betadine and flamazine cream if any of you think I should put that on it. Also on top of everything apparently Cleo is a little over weight and I’ve been doing a good job at helping her loose weight. She was 350g and is now 340g my vet and I believe we should try and get her down to 320g - 330g, I feed her 10 pieces of butternut squash a day and 3 crickets every Monday and Friday, is this too little for her? I just don’t want to be starving her but she’s still active for the most part, but not as much as she used to be before the diet, and overall is still an alert, happy beardie. Here is also pictures of the tail.

I would wash w/ the betadine and the flamazine and afterwards put the raw unpasteurized honey on it-- thats going to keep the infection away --- as far as diet make sure shes not losing too much weight w/ what your feeding - I would tho be feeding her salads they are not going to put weight on her --- make sure there are NO crickets left in the tank or they will go straight for the tail

Thank you Sadie for your help, it’s beyond appreciated. I’ll wash it up right now. And for the diet I keep watch of her weight daily so she doesn’t drop a lot of weight out of no where. And sadly the only thing she’ll eat is butternut squash and a couple pieces of collard greens if I’m able to sneak them in. She doesn’t touch anything else, not any fruit or veggie you could name.

Well at least shes eating some greens- if she gets hungry enough she will eat more salads- have you tried dandelion greens or dandelions from your yard? Make sure they are not sprayed w/ pesticides tho -- they can eat the whole thing --

Yes I have and nothing at all, bee pollen - no, bugs on salad - no, pellets even as a last resort - no. I’ve tried truly every veggies possible and the only one she will have is butternut squash. I think it’s because I syringe feed her butternut squash baby food when I first got her and that was probably the first veggie she ever had in her 11 years of life so I think she got attached to it. I mean the poor girl was basically feed monthly for her whole life so she’s allowed to be a bit picky at her old age. Also they only way I can get veggies into her is if I put them in between her lip and than she’ll open her mouth willingly to eat it. So the only things I can feed her is anything to small and sturdy enough to put in between her lips.

Maybe try a few slurries (blended veggies) and syringe feed her a few times a week
