Supers as staples

Ok guys and girls Maddie and I have recently been exploring the idea of using supers as our main staple instead of Dubias. Dubias are just so pricey and unfortunately we just don't have the space to begin a colony right now.
Supers are so cheap and easy to care for, plus they can be gut loaded that's always a plus.
We really value the opinions from you guys and would just like to hear your thoughts. Do you believe it would be fine to use them as a staple or should they just remain occasional treats for now?

Supers don't make a good staple. They're really fatty, which is why it's recommended that they just be used as treats. As big as Spyra is, she doesn't need a ton if insects, mostly greens. Ruth gets 12 or 13 roaches every other to every third day. I also have a colony though, which makes my life easier. If you have space for a medium sized tub or a 40 gallon tank, that's all you'd need for a colony. I'm not sure how tight you guys are on space, though :/

[emoji17] bummer. I wish the little stinker liked BSFL or anything cheaper than Dubias that's actually good for her lol.
I have heard that adults can have them as a staple? If that is true, I'd assume an adult can get away with it since they do not eat as many insects?

We are now thinking about cleaning out our storage closet and putting a colony in there. We already have a female adult roach that was shipped to us by mistake. She's been our pet ,that we are terrified of, for the past few weeks lol

I wouldn't feed them as a staple, but I'm sure others have done it without consequence.

I'd totally put a colony in the closet! They aren't so creepy once you get used to them. The males freak me out more than the females do. I actually use feeding tongs to handle them when they need to be moved. I still dont have the cajones to grab them with my hands. They are pretty happy little critters if you give them heat, food, and don't mess with them often. I've grown quite fond of my roaches haha.

Yes, we were going to cut this big girl in half to feed to Spyra but when the time came neither of us could do it. She creeps me out but I can't help but to like her and I certainly don't have it in me to hurt her. But breed her? I absolutely can :)

After your feedback about the supers we had a discussion and have determined we are going to start a colony in the closet lol. I posted a new topic to get advice from all of you who already have colonies

I used supers as my staple but made sure to mix them up with other bugs too when I could. When I noticed that my babies were getting a little too round, I cut back on the supers. Mine are adults now so they only get live bugs every 3 days or so.
