Hey guys whats up. Well Got my tank enclosure setup and ready for the Beardie, just testing out temps and such..
So I been reading and reading. Just want to make Sure what I need for him/her when I get them this week.

What do you guys recommend I need for this Juvi?

What should I be feeding it per day?

What do you recommend for a feeder?

Thanks and much appreciated

Sorry, been a little busy with the holiday's and with the plague hitting my house . I have a migraine right now so I hope I make sense here LOL!

Most of us here follow the 15 min rule, feed as much as they will eat in 15 minutes. Three times a day is preferred for little ones but 2 is okay. Crickets and dubia's a preferred when they are small, especially because they will eat A LOT of them. Dexter used to eat around 60 crickets a day when she was small! Crickets should be no bigger than the size of the space between their eyes. Some people size the crickets by the length of the cricket, I like to go by the WIDTH of the cricket. My reasoning for width is that mine like to eat worms and worms are obviously going to be longer than the space between their eyes. When you watch them eat you will see that they chew up their food real good before swallowing.

You will learn your dragons eating patterns. Luci used to eat 3 times a day then one day decided he only wanted to eat 2 times a day. As they get bigger their bugs will get bigger so they will eat less of them.

You can kinda make your own decision about the 15 min rule depending on the feeder. My main staple is super worms, Luci can eat 15 large ones in 2 minutes. If I let him keep going he would easily eat 3 times that!

My baby won't stay in the feeding bin for 15 minutes, and he can't seem to find the crickets in his tank. (plus I suck at catching the little buggers out of the tank). So I put him in the feeding bin 3 x a day and he eats 7 or 8 crickets, then climbs the walls in a frenzy to get out. In his defense, Petco was feeding him 6-7 crickets ONCE per day, so maybe he needs to get used to eating more?

He will take water from my fingertip and seems to like babyfood squash (squash and water, no additives).

He's pretty little, 7 inches including tail, which as near as I can figure is almost too little to be sold.

Oh, he's eating mostly crickets, not very interested in meal worms, or maybe even can't see them, they're soooooo tiny. And squash. I'll start introducing him to greens soon. Maybe starting in the feeder box with the crickets.

I hate crickets because they hide everywhere. I primarily feed Dubia Roaches. I can put a bunch in a small ceramic dish and let blaze feed out of it when he wants. He is young and I let him eat as much as he wants when he wants. The white bowl is where I put the roaches. You can do crickets in a bowl as well but you need to break/remove their jumping legs first which is a pain and I feel evil doing it.

Sooo cute! I'm going to get some dubia roaches, but that has to wait until mid February. I'm going on vacation and my husband is horrified by the idea of the roaches, so I won't ask him to take care of them, lol. The crickets and the dragon itself don't bother him, though. I haven't told him yet that if Elliot goes I to shed he'll have to bathe him and massage his little feets and tail.

@rob.kolm, I found a similar bowl in red (at our house reptile dishes are red, a holdover from mouse bits etc from the snake) and the tiny crickets Elliot is eating can't jump out, so he's happy. He sits on his log and picks them off.

@PsycoMenace - maybe call the pet store or breeder and ask what he was eating there? My little guy has no interest in mealworms at all, honestly, they are so tiny I don't think he can even see them. He'll eat collard greens from my fingers, but only a few bites. Is it possible your crickets are too big? Or maybe your tank isn't hot enough? (I'm a dragon newbie, too, it's not like I know much yet, just tossing ideas at you).

he was eating crickets and they said romaine lettuce. He ate the first night I got him about 5 crickets, then he stopped. So I bought wax worms and he ate them for 2 days straight but only Ate once a day. Then he stopped taking a liking to wax worms. SOoo I started giving grapes, carrots and Tomato.
He wont eat from my hand, He wont sit and eat with me. I have to put the food infront of him, walk away and give him about 10-15 mins till he starts eating. If I watch him n he sees me he will stop. Even When I put The veggies in his bowl, he doesnt go down there to eat them. IDK why pretty weird, after all the stories I hear about others hand feeding and eating a ton a day.

Tank Temps are 85 on the cool side, and 100 on the basking side.
