Silkworm caring and cleaning

I'm reading the instructions from Coastal about how to care for the silkworms. I got some very shallow but lots of surface area Sterlite containers..their like 14 x14 but only 3 inches deep with locking tops. Now I'm going to start with 1000 smalls. I'll buy some premade mix so I ready as soon as they come. My question is..it says to clean the container once a week..so I bought 4, 2 to use, 2 to switch to. Since I have NEVER seen or dealt with silkworms any help would be appreciated. It says do not touch them. When cleaning out the container do you just use a plastic scoop and move them from one container to the next?

How much food will I have to buy to support 1000 silkworms for a few weeks? Coastal sells 1/2 lb mixes or a 10 lb which is one extreme to another.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Chris
