Hello everyone. I’m new to this site, my daughter and I have a beardie that we got as a baby about 8 months ago. He has to be the friendliest most laid back lil’ guy ever. So imagine our suprise when after bath time today he started freaking out. My daughter joked that Ruka started drinking his bath water to eliminate it, in fear of drowning in less than a half inch of water. She might be onto something! Bc after he drank the water he kept trying to escape. He was NOT happy. she picked him up and first he kept swallowing over and over, looked almost like choking! Then he kept opening his mouth and sticking his tongue out, then just opening his mouth at us. He didn’t look mad, he looked scared. His beard started to darken and his tale got stiff. She put him back in his cage. It stopped soon after. I should mention he is shedding. Has anyone ever seen this? Could he have drank to much water in his bath? Why does he hate water? Maybe he got cold? But why the excessive swallowing and open mouth? Help!!

hi, welcome to the forum, sorry for the late response. Not all beardies like baths, its possible he drank too much or aspirated a bit of water, he obviously didnt like whatever it was. Just keep an eye on him over the next few days and if there is any noticable change in his behaviour or breathing difficulties you may have to get him checked out. They can freak out at the most bizarre things so it may not be anything to worry about.
