Hello,

There are a few spots on my basking log that Dubia's and Crickets go in. Is there a sake filler I can use. I was thinking about Silicone calking? What is safe? Thank you in advance!

I've seen people who do all kinds of things to create decorations, maybe a fake or real plant in the hole? Logs aren't cheap, I'm sure you can find a better solution!

YIKES, NO do not use any of those products; its deadly. I place my protiens in a fresh huge ziplock back and shake the clacium and herptivite 4times a week and train the beardie to eat out of the bag:) IT easy and clean. Feed only crickets & Dubias thats the best and I do 60/day; 20 per feeding & if he's 5mnths up to a year then at a year you go to 40 or so. Under 6mnths feed 4-5 times a day. They need lots of protein when they are growing and as adults u lower it to 30 crickets a day alongside alwasy the staple greens and veggies. The dubias place them in his water dish and place him in front of it that way he gets his water too if hes not a drinker.

Thank you I appreciate the information! I like your idea!

Aquarium safe silicone is often used in DIY perches and tanks, it should be safe to use as a filler. If you can find materials, you could also try making a custom cover for the perch.

Dex's log has few hidey holes in his long too. I found I can fill them with some of his excavator clay to keep the bugs out. I do the same around his rocks so they can't sneak under them, too. I just pull them out gently when I wash and place them back into the same spots. Works for me. :)

Sorry, apparently can't type today. lol First sentence makes no sense. His log has a few hidey hole spots, too. I meant to say.

I put a bunch of crickets in a plastic bowl with a lid, then shake em up and down a bit to stun them. Then I put them in her glass dish and they don’t jump out or climb. Unless there’s one really squirrelly one who didn’t get phased. But that usually works for me. Hope you can find a solution.

You can get special cricket feeders at pet stores that release them one at a time, or if you have the time you can offer them individually yourself. If it's not too heavy, you could try removing the log during feeding and replace it when all the circkets are gone.

Do the cricket feeders actually work? I’ve never heard of them. That seems like something worth looking into. I’d be interested

Haven't tried them myself, but the reviews for this one are pretty positive: https://www.amazon.com/Exo-Terra-Re...=reptile+cricket+feeder&qid=1602256365&sr=8-2
The way it works is you load in the feeders, dust them, and then open up the little door. Because the door is small, hey go out one at a time (depending on cricket size), so the reptile has time to eat them in between. It's only good for adult crickets because the small ones come out too quickly. I've also seen some complaints about the stopper for the hole not fitting. There are a lot of similar products that might be better.

We had the same issue and the crickets would get stuck in therr. We had to power hose them out and yes, we did use the clear cilicone to close up the holes. No issues since and my beardie doesn't even mess with the cilicone.

I’ve used plain ol’ cotton balls for this with success. None of my dragons ever tried to eat it, and if they happen to get soiled with cricket dust or anything else, they can be easily discarded and replaced.
