How many of you remember the days when having a video game system in your home was a wonder of the world, when 8-bit graphics were cutting edge and those monotone songs in the games were like listening to an orchestra play?

Granted I was born a little late into the home video game console scene I do remember growing up playing the Atari 2600 and my personal favorite, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). I had 3 of them 2 of which were your typical stand alone consoles and then I had a rare Nintendo licensed TV with the NES built in. Over the course of 20 some odd years they started to refuse to work. I refurbished one but there's only so much you can do.

After the tried attempts to get it to work I gave up and settled for a half working NES, until now! I have decided to take on a project to get a classic NES system and have it run on NES rom files. That means no more jamming 2 games in the console to get the game to work, no wiggling the games around in the system and no more blowing into the cartridges!

It's been done before but I want to try to make it look a little nicer so I drew up a sketch of what I want it to look like. Where the CD drive will open I want to take the end of an old game and chop it off and put it as the "door" to the drive so when you open the door on the console it looks like there is actually a game inside. I also want to keep the controllers original so I will either buy the USB adapter or hack the controller ports and replace the prongs with a USB slot and piece. Still needs some work so this is only a rough draft. Luckily I have most of the parts I will need lying around my in-laws house and my dad's house.

P.S. Yes, I am a geek :D

Wish me luck!

Good luck...let me know how this works out and I might be able to get my husband to do it for me. I miss my old console.
