I rescued my beardie about a month ago and he was severely malnourished, dehydrated and fatigued. I was told he was receiving improper lighting (no uvb) and that he recently stopped eating so much. I took him to the vet and they only told me what I was already aware of...that he was malnourished and dehydrated. They sent me home with critical care syringe food for him and medication for parasites which I've been giving him for the last week, as well as a strong uvb light. The strange thing is that he seems to only be getting g worse since the vet visit. Very low energy. They said nothing about his eyes but they have been bulging ever since I received him. Though they do go back to normal from time to time. Which is even more confusing. I really don't think its because he's about to shed because its been going on for so long. I'm just wondering if anything could be causing this besides him being malnourished and dehydrated..which I've been desperately trying to work on and have seen small improvements. Once he gets back to a healthy weight will they go back to normal? Or does it look like an eye infection that the vet didn't do anything about?? Please help I just want this little guy to be okay

Oh my goodness! That doesn't look normal to me, but I'm a new mom so not sure. I did google bulging eyes and what I found mentioned it might be the cause of high blood pressure and to get them to a vet immediately. Not sure if that's what's wrong with your fellow. Experienced peeps may have better answers. I hope he makes a swift recovery.

Hello, that does not look normal to me although it is very controversial what bearded dragon eye bulging actually means some say it's shedding, some say it's high blood pressure, others say it is an infection so I cannot say for sure what it is.

They probably had a coil, balck or red bulb hat ruined his eyes. Rite now get a ZooMed basking bulb for heat and the long tubular Reptisun 10.0 T5 for UVB and should cover 2/3 of the tank starting from the hot side u can place he mom. Bulb in the back of tank and he basking like more towards the front and uvb should be 10 inches or so away from him so his hammock can be like 8inches Away/same for his basking he needs uvb and heat togheter also baths 2times per week DONOT get water in his ears or he will get a upper respiratory infection water should be like warm and dehlorinated with reptisafe unless u have bottled water or a filter system. Also no sand in the tank. Use smooth shelf liner from target or wallmart or u can order online it’s $10 smooth shelf liner in beige color don’t get black that will burn him from the heat. Lots of protein with calcium 5 times a week u dust the crickets shake them ina. Ziplock bag with calcium and lots of staple greens and veggies yellow squash & snap peas are key alongside dandelions and mustard/collard greens and endives dice it so he can eat it and mix 2/3 greens with 2-3 veggies also u can add green beans, zucchini. NO lights at night at all hey like pure dark when sleeping and quiet. U can get a ceramic heat emitter at petco or Petsmart or online it emits heat but no light. But again NO colors it kills their eyes I can reverse this with he proper light and also u can take him to the vet to test his stools and check him

Please take him to another vet and 3-4 baths a week in warm dechlorinated water for 15 minutes at a time and then pat him dry with a very soft cloth and place him under the basking light. Buy reptisafe they are drops you place in drinking and bathing water to dechlorinate; chlorine is super super bad for their skin. Also, the best UVB is the REPTISUN 10.0 T5; DO NOT USE A COIL BULB OR COLORED BULB EVER. Sounds like he has MBD, NO uvb will destroy a dragons bones and he needds a shot from the vet asap. He was given calcium and not able to absorb due to no uvb probably. not having lighting and UVB and Heat will make him super duper lethargic and not eating and bulging eyes from wrong lights and MBD. Take him into another VET google best reptile vets in the area and get him in ASAP. and please get the right UVB order on amazon or special reptile stores
