Hello All,
I rescued a 3 year old male on Saturday.he appears to be in good health but has not had much to eat. He has taken in a small about of mustard greens and collard greens. But wont eat meal works or crickets. He appears very healthy. I put mustard greens and collard greens, 4 crickets and some yellow squash and mango each morning. How long before I need to worry. He has pooped almost daily so that is good. Any feed back would be appreciated. - Regards Shelley

Way to go for rescuing him!! I wouldn't be concerned about the not wanting to eat the protein..I would substitute superworms, dubia roaches, butter worms, wax worms hornworms and NOT mealworms.. they have a hard shell containing chitlin it is super hard for them to digest..
As an adult they will eat more greens than bugs.. If he's pooping and acting good then I wouldn't worry.. Also keeping in mind he is new to you and will go thru an adjustment period..

Especially with a rescue you want to go easy on things with chitlin. I would stick to soft bodied worms and crickets or dubia for a few weeks and then slowly introduce some super worms. He could be going through an adjustment period.

What kind of situation was he in before you got him?

Thanks for your response. It is really hard to tell. He has a nice set up with a 40 gallon breeder tank, lighting was a little lacking as was UVB he had all the right supplies as far as worms and crickets he was the young man probably 17. Rocky seems in good shape though. I do believe he is stressed from the move and he lived with that young man for 2 years so it was quite long of the same routine. Thank you again Shelley

Do you have a picture of him? Sounds like he just needs a little bit of time to get used to his new loving home.

I have a heart for rescues - good for you !! He looks healthy from here. One of our members called it "moving sickness" - just takes em a bit to get re-adjusted to new living situation.

Thank you!! In addition to Rocky we have a rescue rabbit, guinea pig, African Grey parrot, iguana and parrotlet. We take excellent care of all them and make sure they have the proper items to thrive.
