Hi guys. Some of you may know that I'm new here and that I'm planning on getting a beardie. I'm hoping that I'm writing the the right part of them forum - I'm still getting use to it!

I'm looking at getting a red leatherback which I've heard are quite difficult to get hold of. Therefore I was just wondering what I should be looking out for and the questions I should be asking the breeder? I want to know that I'm getting a healthy beardie
Thanks for any help

You want a dragon that has clear eyes and is active can hold it's body up. You may want one that has all it's toes and tail (some people don't care). You want one that looks like a good weight, not real skinny. Ask the breeder to send you a picture and a video.

With the red leatherbacks are you more than likely to have to order them? They're a lot rarer than the 'normal' bearded dragon you find in pet shops aren't they?

I don't think they are rare per se, but you do have to get the morphs from a breeder. Sometimes you can get lucky and get a morph like a leatherback, or different colors at the pet store, but that's rare.

Yes if you are looking for something specific. The only way to definitely know what morph they are is to get them from a breeder.
