Pregnant cat; Help!

Almost a month ago I took in a stray cat, who I named Keona. Everythings been going great and all, but I noticed she was getting fat. I took her to the vet-And she's pregnant! About three to four weeks along.

The vet said she's only about 7-9 months old. I'm worried about her having a litter that young, for both her health and the babies. Has anyone out there ever had a young mother cat? Any tips on care/what to expect?

She will start nesting, preparing a place to have them. I always wanted mine to have them in our closet in the quiet away from the rest of our animals. So I laid out a blanket and even put food and water in there for her and took her in and let her sniff around. That doesn't necessarily mean she will use that place but once babies are born you can move mom and babies in there on the blankets. I did all the prep work for her first litter and I guess she thought she had to use the bathroom and ended up having two of them in the litter box. She was dragging one around so I had to wash some sissors in alcohol and cut the cord and wipe the litter off kittens and move them. Our cat would NOT be trapped in the house so she kept getting pregnant and ended up having three litters and let the last litter all die even with me feeding them from a syringe. We ended up completely locking her in a closet until her appt to get spayed. Just a warning unless you want it to happen again you will need to keep her from getting out to do it again and get her fixed. Even after getting her fixed the doc said she was still fertile for about 30 more days.

Our 10 month old just had her litter of 5, the night before last & handled it quite well. We also did the closet thing. If she is 3-4 weeks along, you likely will have another month or so to go. If my memory serves me right, I think the gestation period is 60-65 days. Good Luck.

Thanks, that helps. I've been worried about it because she's so young. But my aunt's agreed to come over when she goes into labor, so at least that'll help. (My aunts a vet tech)
