Power outage

We had a power outage here for 6 hours(at least in my area, some are still without power 2 days later) I have had my oldest dragon for about a year and have been a member of another forum for about 1 1/2 years. I had read during that time that beardies can be without UVB for several hours so I had no UVB for my dragons during the power outages, but used hand warmers for heat. I opened the hand warmers and wrapped my beardies in their blankies(yes my beardies have their own blankies and get tucked in to bed at night) and wrapped the hand warmers in their too(with a layer of blankie between beardie and warmer) and they stayed snuggly warm for hours.I checked on my beardies constantly to make sure they weren't getting too hot. Wish I could take credit for this, but read about someone else doing this for their beardies during a storm. Had power not come back on when it did,I was going to my sisters for the duration of the power outage, but just as I was getting ready to get my beardies ready to go(had already packed human supplies) the power came back on.

Good thinking ! Yes dragons can do just fine without UVB for a few hours, Sara.
The temps are what are critical... Might I suggest... a portable Propane heater ?
I got two... and when power is out.... the heat is still running ;). Get a CO2 sensor too...

This one slipped through the cracks for me. I think it is a very good and interesting discussion.

Sara, it sounds like you took great measures in ensuring your beardie had what was necessary in a power outage. Give yourself credit. You read the other post and remembered what needed to be done. I'm glad it was only for 6 hours!

Thanks Ladies!! My beardies are very much a part of my family and I would care for them as I would my children. If they're sick I try to find out what's wrong...if they want play time or cuddle time, they get it(or if I think that's what they want)They are pampered very much and we all love them. I do the same for my gecko and she will occasionally let me hold her,in her cage and she will crawl up my arm,but I haven't been brave enough to hold her outside her cage, she's very quick and I'm afraid she would try to run away.
