I've finally had some positive interaction with Spyro. The last two days now I was able to pet him under his chin without him biting me. Yesterday he did still gape at me like he was going to bite but he never did. Today I started out by hand feeding him a superworm (would only eat one, I tried several though) and then cleaned his water and filled his food bowl, and then after I was done with that I decided to try petting him again. Unlike yesterday he didn't gape at me while I was feeding him the superworm or while I was petting him! I pet him the same way again, just under his chin for a few seconds. I didn't want to push my luck so I only did it for a couple seconds.

On another note, I have decided to build my own tank for sure, and will hopefully be starting it tonight after dinner. It will be 4'x2'x2' and have a side opening door on the front that covers about 2/3 of the front face, and will also have a screen top. It's going to be made out of wooden supports and then glass on the sides. I have yet to decide what the bottom of it will be, any suggestions? My thoughts are either plexiglass (I have a big sheet just laying around from an old project) or plywood that would either be painted or maybe tiled to make it fancier? The wood will be stained to make it look nicer as well as protect it if water or what have you gets onto it.

I still need to find a fixture for a t5 bulb, does anyone have any suggestions? I tried all the local pet stores and could not find anything. Should I just order everything else I need online or are there other places that will definitely have one? I live in southern Wisconsin if that helps at all. Other than that I need a different heat source at night that gives off no light and probably a better basking bulb, don't know what kind to get though.

What size CHE do you recommend? I still only have the 10 gal tank, like I said. I'll be building the new tank as soon and quickly as possible though for him.

I get my bulbs and fixtures from petmountain.com I am also in WI but up by Appleton bulbs are hard to find in T5 Pet Supplies Plus I have found them at. Our house stays 73 at night so I don't use any CHE's
Just a side note this little one is going to quickly outgrow that 10g tank and having the temps/lighting and a good tank size is really important.

I'm working on building a 4x2x2 enclosure. I ended up getting an 18" T8 bulb for him and a 60W CHE bulb.

I would order the fixture online. PetMountain usually has sales and Dr. Foster and Smith (they are in Steven's Point) is a good place to get deals.

The bulb came with a fixture, and it actually seems pretty nice. Thank you though, when I start getting more stuff and bigger stuff I will definitely check out PetMountain.

He got a bath finally and then got to relax on my lap for a while before going back into his tank. I'm still sitting with him right now and I have yet to get bitten! He did act like he was going to bite me a few times but never actually bit or even tried to. I'm really excited because it finally feels like we're making progress together! Hopefully in another week or so he will stop acting like he wants to bite me and I'll be able to start taking him out more often. This is the first time he's been out of his tank since I stopped handling him for almost a week now. I have pet him inside the tank but never picked him up until today.
