hey everyone,
My bearded dragons poop has been very wet and soft lately and smells horrible. I'm thinking its time to go see a vet. Is this something that is super serious or just a small stomach virus/parasite?
I'm not the expert that others are, but runny and smelly almost always means trouble. I would recommend a vet visit as soon as possible. Take a stool sample with you.
Coincidentally, I've been reading up on dragon poop just today. Your description might indicate the presence of excessive pinworms, something that is apparently relatively common in our beardie children.
iI just took mine to the vet for the same reasons you listed plus she hasn't been eating much. She had some pinworms but in the normal range but had her treated for them since she was there. Ordered some probiotic and electrolytes to help in her recovery from the Pancur which she was treated with. She appears to have nothing wrong other than poor appetite lately.
What are you feeding? How old is your beardie? Yes typically exceedingly smelly poop is parasites, watery poop can be from hornworms or it's very hydrated, or your feeding something that would make it watery. I would also rec having a fecal done to make sure.. Having pinworms is normal its when the numbers get out of control is when your beardie gets more ill from them. If it does have parasites and needs treatment getting them on probiotics to help regain good gut flora is important..
