Poop question

Seems like I am always asking something new on Slyder. He has had loose poop for a couple of weeks. I have cut back on his hydration foods thinking this was the problem but it does not seemed to have helped. It does not stink, just smells like poop. It has a little more smell then Oscars but he also poops twice as much as Oscar does. As you all know he is growing incredibly fast, eating me out of house and home, about 1 medium sized collard leaf and a few pieces of squash a day plus 100-120 1/2 inch crickets per day. I look at his poop to see if there is anything I can see wiggling around in there and see nothing, I know there might be something there that can not be seen with the eye. He is very active. Could this be the squash? His nonstop sheding for 5 weeks? Time to go to the vet? I am trying to avoid the vet b/c the closest reptile vet to me is a hour away and I want to limit the stress of a 2 hour round trip car ride plus time at the vet. Not to mention he still jumps and runs like a mad man if I am not in the bathroom with him.

Runny poops especially ones that don't smell doesn't signify a problem. If he is eating, sleeping, and acting normal i wouldn't worry. If you are really worried i would just have a fecal run.

Just wanted to check. I worry so much about him b/c of how he was when I got him. I am just a worry wart. Oscar is perfect and by the book but Slyder seems to be doing his own things.

I would just keep an eye, if any behavior changes then an appointment might be in order.

I agree with Lisa that it is most likely nothing to worry about. You may want to consider taking the poop to a regular vet. Many of them can run a fecal. This would ease your mind a bit. Just a thought.

I checked with my regular vet and they will not even look at it b/c it is reptile poop. Guess thats what I get for living in a small town with only one cat/dog vet and one cat only vet.

Lisa, my regular vet would not do a fecal either. I don't know what the deal with that is either.

Sandy(I hope I have the right name) or is it Monique? So sorry. :-\I started giving my guys collards and squash just for variety on Saturday and today both Petrie and Rainbows stools were loose. So one or the other is causing it to be loose. I am not concerned. Just one of those things. But do keep an eye out for anything unusual that may mean parasites.

You are such a good Beardie Mommy.

Good news!!!! I removed the squash from his food for a few days and poop today is almost back to normal. It was the butternut squash doing it. Oscars poop has stayed normal but he only eats 1 or 2 bites and then picks around it. Slyder likes it so I increased it and that must have been when the runny poop started. Now that I know, I feel better.

Sorry...I just went back to the original post on this and saw that you did mention squash in his diet. Yeah, that is a great vegi to help them along with pooping. As a matter of fact when a beardie hasn't gone in a few days I recommend giving the canned squash. You can slowly put it back in the diet, but I would just shred a bit over the "salad" a couple times a week at the most.

For a while he would not eat his greens unless it was in there so I put it in everyday. Now he seems ok with just eating his collards so once poop goes back to normal I will only put a little in from now on. I found that he eats more greens when it is mixed in.

He just did another poop and it was perfect!! Looks like he is back to normal. Tomorrow is move day so I am just going to feed greens for simplicity but will start mixing in foods again the middle of the week.

Glad you found the cause of the runny poops.

Good luck on your move.
