Hey everybody.

Today I had my bearded dragon out and he started coughing about 10 minutes after I let him down to run around. His beard started to darken when I picked him up too.

I googled it and said that they do this sometimes after eating and to caugh up anything they may have eaten but I haven't fed him anything.

The only thing I can think of is maybe he licked a piece of a dog hair off the carpet? He is always licking everywhere he goes. I had him at the vet earlier this year and he had no respiratory infections or anything of that sort.
Any ideas?

We rescue & rehome; Please get a NEW VET asap; ask around or Google and make calls he needs Antibiotics ASAP. Coughing is a sign of a Respiratory Infection. Most vets are idiots if not reptile savvy. He needs “3” does of Purcil and that will cure him, but needs to get in ASAP. Rite now NO baths & do not mist him, keep his tank super duper clean, Never ever leave food or eater in his tank overnite, never ever get water in his ears when bathing. And his humidity level in his tank/basking side should be 30-40 only never over 40. These are all the causes of an Upper Respiratory Infection. Also here’s a pic of a Google article. Please Buy a digital hygrometer & place it next to the digital thermometer a few inches from the top of the cage on his basking side to monitor it. Also when taking him out of the cage u have to vacuum first and pick up anything of the floors I place a lot of clean sheets down too so he can run around and he needs to be monitored. Please make an appt ASAP to a well known reptile vet. Resume 2baths/week and misting after he finishes all the antibiotics.

NO; unfortunate you need a vet. Tell the girl it’s an emergency & possible URInfection & to call u with a cancellation & U are willing to wait or go in anytime. It’s “3” shots that the vet gives.

Could be he licked something up. Especially if you haven't fed him yet and he was roaming around. Is he still coughing or did he stop after he hacked up? lol Sorry no other way I can think to ask that. Thinking my cat with a hair ball. My guy ate a plastic bb once. Geez! I'd keep an eye on him. Usually there are other indications of a respiratory infection like seeping, breathing oddly and such.

It’s an upper respiratory infection we have seen this lots of times but also yes be careful for licking or infesting which can cause other issues.

what do you mean infesting?
I think she ment “ingesting” i shure hope ur guys okay, i had to pull one of my sisters hairs from the depths of my beardie once, they definitely can lick up hair and cause them to be uncomfortable, you should Of seen the reaction of my beardie, it was like that magic act with the handkerchiefs and a guys sleeve ,always good to air on the side of caution though, plus she was probably needing a checkup anyway

He was coughing for like 30 minutes, but I have not seen him coughing since that day! I sure hope it was just a hair.
