Pinworms and coccidia

Since we've had Critter for almost two weeks now and his relocation stress has subsided, I wanted to get a fecal done and see what sorts of nasties he came with from the pet store. I'm glad I did because even though there wasn't anything visibly wrong with his behavior or poops, he had very high coccidia counts plus plenty of pinworm eggs. He got Panacur and Albon in the office, with several doses for me to give at home over the next few days and weeks.

He has also been showing early signs of MBD, but last week I swapped out the wimpy 18" T8 UVB light the pet store told us to get, and got a 22" Reptisun T5 10.0 light. I can already see improvement in his mobility- he doesn't walk with his hands folded backwards nearly as much, and stands up on his legs properly. The UVB lights in the store enclosures were coiled bulbs, with plastic and screen between the bulbs and the animals. I'm quite sure he wasn't getting enough to be healthy.

So now he's getting treated for all the things the pet store was doing wrong, and hopefully will be feeling even better really soon.

Glad you got him checked and he's now on meds to rid those nasties.. Happy to hear that the signs of MBD are fading.. that's awesome and goes to show what good lighting does..
