You get your status updated by the amount of posts. But honestly, it really doesn't matter. I remember on one forum, some jokester decided he wanted to get to the highest status...he typed "lol" or something to that matter to every single thread.

Dnt worry i keep him safe with a harness and he loves basking in the hammock with me. when the hammock is swinging his head tilts side to side ahahaha
