Hello,
I was looking at the threads that talked about breeding crickets and the need for dirt. Where should I get dirt from to use in cricket container? I'm concerned that I will get bad dirt or soil and infect my dragon with parasites.
Thanks for your help 8)

I would think a good, natural potting soil would be okay. No additives that would harm the beardie.

Yesterday I decided to attempt the beginnings of breeding crickets..... I purchased Zoo Med Eco Earth Compressed Coconut Fiber Expandable Substrate...It comes in a brick and i just cut off a piece and added some water...crickets seem to like it they almost immediately started digging in the "dirt".

hah, I wouldnt waste the money on the cricket dirt. I use dirt from outside, yes the very stuff crickets actually live in. If it's dirt, or dirt-like, the crickets will lay in it.

The eco-earth works well in cricket breeding. I accidentally bred them at my old job and eco-earth was used.

In any bug colony, at some point or another they will get some parasites.
Its just a giiven in my opinion.

There are precautions that can be taken to keep your feeders cleaner. I use a dewormer for my roaches bi-monthly on their orange.

He likely won't be answering this for a while. He left for New Ah-lens this morning....and won't be back online 'til he gets settled.

I have a question.. Parasites verses micro organisms found in "dirt". How would said organisms effect or cause effect on captive reptiles ? Would those organisms effect the reptiles ?

To answer that we must first understand the organism/micro organism and it's function. Some of those I get, some I don't. Some are beneficial, some are not. Some can make them sick. Some aid in building properties similar to the human immune system and make the animal resistant or adaptable to the organism.
The effect varies. and your question is too wide open to answer. Pick one of the various thousand.

Noted....two things Gina needs to learn more about: micro-organisms and lighting. ;D

lol..........yup. Everybody has their priorities.
I'll get to the micro organisms one day i'm sure. there are so many and i tend to take them by relevance, not alphabetical order. The lighting on the other hand..........doesn't excite me. So I leave it to someone who better gets it and I just do what i'm told.
