is there a test for parasites where you can send it in through the mail instead of going to the vet? my babies have some smelly poop and we wanna test and make sure they don't have anything.
If there was, it wouldn't be accurate. Fecals should be done as soon as possible after they poop. Or it would cost you almost as much as taking them into the vet for a fecal. Overnight shipping can be expensive. I understand the cost of taking multi beardies into the vet for the first time is expensive but if a vet has never seen them and they get ill, it will take you longer to get them into a vet because they would be considered a new patient. This happened to me with my first beardie. I started doing my own fecals when mine were juvies. But they have all been into the vet so I know I can get them in fast if I need to after my first experience.
I usually don't post, but I have a few minutes so I figured I'd give you food for thought
A healthy dragon that tests positive for parasites and a dragon who doesn't, should not behave any differently (in most cases). What I mean is, you shouldn't be able to tell difference. The animal with parasites should not be sick.
Parasites don't want to kill their host. They need the host. When a reptile is weakened by parasites, due to the parasite being able to multiply to high numbers, its almost always because the reptile isn't being supported properly.
from what i can see from my baby beardie, and from the one who had a problem at a local pet store, and from what ive read here, it should be REALLY smelly, like right as the poop it covers the whole room really bad before u would be able to tell if they are sick from that, i could be wrong though, still sorta new to beardies (not reptiles), just going off what ive seen so far.
you will know a parasite poop. It STINKS!!!! You will know if you have one, there is no mistaking it. When Slyder had her parasite poop you could smell it in every room of the house.
Don't forget that all fecal matter stinks. When people say STINKY the really mean that. If you can smell it outside the room or just as you walk into the room then yeah, probably parasites.
