We have a tokay, I named her biotch. (without the o). And so far we have no photos of her..I am not prone to handle her. One day I will. She is beautiful. And very vocal. LOVES to show me how big her mouth is when I am in her enclosure cleaning it. And she barks at me..So precious. I wear a glove in her enclosure. I have told her no biting. Not sure she cares. She just wants me OUT of her enclosure.

Tokay's are gorgeous. I considered getting the one I saw at the pet store. They're so beautiful and cheap to buy. I was held back because of their aggressive behavior, as I like to hold all my pets. Nice name by the way! Suites them good LOL. I hope you can get some photos to share!

Tokays are a handful. They make gators seem like puppies with thier attitudes but they definitely are pretty and they have morphs for them now.

There are many morphs of Tokay's available now. Even a Pied (though this is a few thousand dollars)

They are vicious at first but if you handle them regularly (and loosely do not grip them hard or they will feel threatened) they will calm down and become relatively tame. I do suggest gloves while handling, esecially at first as you will have to basically let her bite you a few times (without jerking back even though that would be the natural reaction) to let her know that biting will not get her down like she wants.

Thank you for the advice Cryptic. She has been calmig down a bit while I have been in her enclosure. I will definitely try that. I would love to hold her.

They are beautiful.

Yeah like Brian said, wear the gloves and let her bite . . . . It really works.
My COnure used to bite, so I put on leather gloves and let her go for it. She would storm, bite and after a while look up at me as if to say "Hey wheres the jerking and leaving, this is supposed to hurt" Then she would go sulk for a while since she didnt get the reaction from me she anticipated LOL.
Now she storms, opens her beak, and I promise it seems she remembers that it wont work, so she closes her beak and comes to mumble while I scratch her head.

Just be patient

You need to get this on video sometime. That sounds hilarious! ;D

So, I picked Biotch today for the first time. I must have surprised her. She did not even try to bite me. lol. I am still wearing the glove though. She can't fool me with her ways. ;)

It's the croaking that would get to me... not like my tree frogs outside. James wanted one, until we read up a bit.. and watched the care giver at the store get a nasty bite.. nopes.. sticking with less aggressive species... for now ;)

The first time she "barked" at me I dropped what I was doing in her enclosure, scared the poo right out of me. It is LOUD. She just got moved into a much larger enclosure. She really likes to roam around at night.
