Well little miss Harley decided to lay about 12 eggs last night...after my daughters where done freeking out thinking something was wrong, it was to say the least the most interesting thing to watch...kind of felt bad for the girl....she was exhausted by the time she was done, we have removed the eggs from her tank and she is now sleeping peacefully....is there anything special we should be doing or just let her be?

These have not been fertilized so we just put them in a zip lock back and tossed them in the garbage.

Who need the Discovery channel when you have this ;D

both of our females were right around 18 months. To the OP, 12 eggs doesn't sound like enough, IMHO you need to put together a lay box. My females layed 28 - 36 eggs, per clutch. 1 had 4 clutches, the other has had 3, so far. All 28 - 30 days apart.

warm soaks, plenty of protean and calcium

Not all females lay eggs. My females has never laid infertile eggs. Digging is one sign not sure about it since I have never experienced it.

You need to make sure that she is well feed with calcium on all live food. A good soak to to replenish hydration.
Many times they have more than 12 eggs. They have been known to lay over 20. Maybe because it is her first time. Just watch her. If she starts to act out of the ordinary she could still have a few eggs. You would need to seek a vets attention if that is the case.
Since she has laid, chances are she will continue periodically to do this. To make it more comfortable you can get a box that will fit in her tank and put sand in it. This way she has a place to lay. Just drop that in the tank when you know/think the time is coming again.

Thank you, she gets calcuim with every feeding of crickets, I went by the store tonight and bought her some of the blue worms she loves so much, I will give her a bath and continue to keep a close eye on her, I feel so bad because I do have some playground sand left over before I switched and this could have made it easier for her....

I do have a box that will fit...so I will prepare it incase she has more to lay.

Again thanks to all !!!

Hi, Laurie. Poor Harley. As everyone said, keep an eye on her. There will probably be more eggs coming. Increase her food to give her the energy to finish if she does have more in there.

Definitely....Sam has laid no fewer than 20 infertiles each time. Her most was 27 or 28. Least was like 23. And she laid them consistently every 5 weeks or so for about 5 or 6 months. Since she stopped, she hasn't laid any since....but I'm always keeping an eye on her.

Just so you know, Sam's now 3-years-old and had never laid eggs before she started in October/November last year (2009). She stopped around March/April this year.

OK we are keeping an eye on her, and thank goodness the girls are out of school for the summer as now we have someone here 24/7, I have removed one of her tiles and put the sand down so that if more eggs are to come she will be more at ease, her feet are concerning me though...with all the digging she has worn down her nails so much, she is walking OK the they are really down. She is getting 2 baths a day and all her favorite foods and crickets dusted.....

How long can it be between the egg laying?? as we want only the best for our girl and if needed we will take her to the vet....

Thanks
Laurie

I was just thinking aren't you glad you found out Harley is a lady before the eggs came?

I haven't experienced this. Bernie never laid eggs. I believe it could take a couple of days or so. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm mistaken.

This is one reason I wish I hadn't put tiles in Sam's enclosure. However, I did find some non-adhesive linoleum that I was able to cut and put over her tiles. She no longer wears her nails down as I'm now well aware of the signs and can put her in her laybox.

Sam's nails got pretty worn down, too. To the point that I ached for her as a couple of them bled her first time. And for that, I wish I'd have known more and done something different with her flooring. If I were you, I'd put her in a box of sifted playsand for the day tomorrow and just let her be. Keep a basking light over the surface. If I remember right, the tempof the sand has to be above 78 degrees F. Otherwise, she won't dig. Just don't it get too hot. Try to regulate it as best you can.

I know Renee, I cannot even imagine the shock of that one ;D

Thanks Craiger, the sand is in her basking area and where she spends the majority of her time, I have left her clay enclosure off to the side and she has more than enough room to dig if necessary, there is no doubt the sand is over 78.

I will leave the sand for now until I can find something that I can remove as I am not to fond of having sand in there.

Fingers crossed all will be fine and with all the attention she is getting....I would swear she is milking it for all its worth !!
