He just finished shedding for the first time, still has a little patch on his hips. I have absolutely no idea how old he his, the only problem I've run into with the PetsMart folks is they didn't know the age of the dragons o picked him from.

Unfortunately, the so-called reptile 'specialists' don't know squat about reptiles. PS should know the date the clutch came in to sell. DUH!! They say that because they are probably too lazy to look it up. Be very careful what PS or any petstore tells you about your beardie. It has been my past experience and for many others on this forum....they don't give good accurate information. If you have quesitons or concerns come here to BDF and you won't go wrong! Good luck! :D

They'll sell you things you don't need too. I've had someone tell me I need a 75 gallon fish tank to put Allie in. (The thing is Allie had a 45-55 gallon critter tank when I went to get crickets or supplies for her.) They also sold me calci-sand and I don't use it. Instead, I'm not going to use it. I'm going to throw it outside or away when I get the chance. I noticed they house all their reptiles on calci-sand even when I told them to take them off and put them on paper towels. (They didn't listen.)

The employees tend to leave me alone when I'm there, which doesn't necessarily bother me. Before I go in and buy anything (lights, substrate, etc) I research what I should and shouldn't get so I don't have to deal with them. The beardies they house together seem to be fine, none look sick or damaged but they do keep 3-4 babies in a 5 gallon tank/display that's so full of basking rocks and fake plants that they don't have much room to move around. Noz seemed pretty eager to get out of there when I bought him.

I used to work at petsmart it's never about the animals it's about making money that's why they have such a large sick room in the back. To be a quote reptile specialist there all you have to do is answer a 40 question online test that you only have to get 30 right and they are multiple choice. But here's the killer if you get the answer wrong it will tell you the right one for quote study sake that's bs because their workers turn around and take the test again with the right answers and pass. They don't really know anything besides the info written on most of the reptiles info packets they hand out.

I had one lady from another pet store try to tell me how to care for Allie. I had her for a year and half-she's a year and half now. I didn't have her as a baby, but I'm sure she looked real cute. (She tried to tell me I was doing things wrong.) That's why I'm on here instead of asking questions from ill-trained employees from the pet store. (They don't know anything about bearded dragons.) There's a guy that works at the Petland I go to that knows how to care for reptiles. He's a manager and he loves seeing Allie because she's so colorful and healthy. Healthier than most dragons, he's seen.

Large pet-store chains don't care as long as they have the $$$ to get more poor animals that are unhealthy. I was looking around the Pet-Land I go to and looking at all the animals. They looked healthy and they weren't overloaded with 10-20 gerbils, hamsters, but a lot of mice and rats. I almost bought a leopard gecko the other day but I didn't have the money to get one. They were 119.00 with the tank and supplies included. It was a grab and go. I also saw a Chinese Water Dragon that I wanted too! I was standing next to the tank and it came running out to me. I guess lizards sense those who have a kind heart.

Allie doesn't really like to sit with my mother too much. Maybe she senses my mom can't handle her if she runs or jumps. But she'll sleep on her.

  • Are you sure that your Allie is a bearded dragon and not a 'real' baby girl?? She is just too funny and always so full of herself!! I enjoy your posts about her antics!!
