Hi, we're new here and are wondering if any of you might have experienced your beardie not eating? It's been about a month since he ate protein. He's had a small amount of veggie, and will drink water. He's losing weight in his limbs and won't move around much at all. We discovered that the bulb we were told to use at pet store didn't have UVB. So wondering if that could be the issue. It's an adult beardie.

You must have a UVB that is an ABSOLUTE MUST--- so I am assuming you have a basking bulb only ? I am going to post some fixtures that you can get pick one of them these are the best on the market --- NO COILS for a uvb --
for a 40 + gallon tank you want a 24" fixture https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle...o-med-reptisun-t5-hood?variant=26907425734756 this will come w/a 5.0 bulb you need this one 22" bulb https://www.pangeareptile.com/colle...d-reptisun-10-0-uvb-t5?variant=26907418591332
or this one https://www.pangeareptile.com/collections/t5-lighting/products/arcadia-prot5-12-uvb-bulb-with-hood
or this one https://hydrobuilder.com/sunblaster-nanotech-t5-ho-fixture-with-6400k-lamp.html
your dragon will not eat w/ out this being corrected --- basking temps need to be 105-110 for a baby taken w/ a digital probe thermometer NO stickons please --- you need two of them one for your basking side and one for the cool side of the tank 80's during the day --- the basking temps need to be surface temps not air/ ambient place the probe on the spot where he sits to bask wait 10 min get the temp --- DO NOT LISTEN to the pet store people they have not a clue as to what they are talking about and give bad advice
your basking bulb need to be a CLEAR bright white bulb that keeps temps to what I posted NO colored bulbs NO off white bulbs NO yellowish bulbs -- NO heat rocks or mats ---- NO daytime bulbs they have a coating on them callex neoyidium that hurts dragons eyes
If you need more help please ask -- your dragon will not eat w/ out this being corrected when you get the UVB please let me know I will help you get it placed in the tank they have certain distance and placement it will depend on the screen where it goes -- if you have anymore questions please ask

He could have extreme metabolic bone disease. He needs UVB. He isn't eating because he has no UVB and cannot digest anything. He also needs to see a vet as soon as possible. how old is he?

keep posted pls

We found a linear uvb light with 5.0 bulb. No stores near me have the 10.0 right now so we'll have to order it. Put it on the screen next to heat bulb

Ok it needs to be unobstructed no screen it will work for now either take the screen off or get it in the tank it needs to be directly above the basking decor piece 6-8 inches the 10.0 bulb will have an option of placement your screen will determine that and distance will be different - if you need something to hang w/ let me know I will post the link

Vet cost are different all over- you need a reptile vet here's a website to find a reptile vet
www.arav.org
Type in a city zip code closest to you if your in a small area-
NO enemas!!! Take a fecal w/ you- heat mats will burn the dragon have seen too many burns from them - dragons heat from their backs not stomachs and they can't feel it-

Are you able to share a pic of this set up? I'm unsure of what you mean. Should the enclosure not have a top/mesh?

If your using a screen use this stuff to hang w/ https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-15-ft-Cable-Ties-Hook-and-Loop-Spool-Black-10375/304220195
this is like a Velcro strap cut into strips wrap around your fixture --
when you get this situated and hes getting the UVB as he should his behavior should change -- as he acclimates to the tank and surroundings his eating should pick up --- if not there is something else going on -- just make sure hes got good basking temps as posted above --

I really appreciate your help. I can't believe we've been doing it so wrong, we did read up on it but were given very different info.
I don't think The heat lamp is adequate as well.

What are you using? It needs to be a CLEAR bright white basking bulb that keeps temps to 105-110 those are surface temps -- place the probe on the spot where he basks for like 10 min or so then get the temp -- examples of that are Exo Terra Intense or a Zoo Med Repti basking bulb ---
What's wrong with heat mats?
Dragons heat from their backs -- not stomachs - I thought I posted a response to this question it must not have posted --- I have seen many dragons w/ stomach burns dragons cannot feel the heat from the mat or rock so they end up getting burned - and you run the risk of them malfunctioning --

They charged me $120 for the appointment, hemipene removal, and fecal testing when I took Zeus to have his hemipene reverted. It depends on the vet -- it usually isn't too bad until we start talking about blood work that can cost as much as $500 (at least at my reptile vet).
