My dragon has become very lazy and hasn’t eaten anything for over a week. Not sure if it is the right time of year for him to be starting his bromation or if he is not happy. Recently moved him to a larger 4ft viv but the setup is the same...any ideas anyone?

Yes its that time of year and hes probably going thru relocation stress --so thats going to effect the appetite- I would how ever remove the sand and replace w/ a textured NON adhesive shelf liner -- its going to be alot easier to keep clean and sand harbors bacteria and can cause illness from that not to mention the cleaning -- also your UVB its on the back wall -- is there a reflector on the fixture? And is it a T 8 ? Dragons do much better w/ their UVB's directly above them --- your basking light I would try and get that above him as well -- it looks pretty low from the picture -- I am assuming the basking light is a bright white one? sorry to make so many suggestions but its for the health of the dragon --- other than that the tank looks very nice -- are you using digital probe thermometers in the tank ? I see one stick on in the back of the tank -- I would also get him a larger hide too - it looks too small for him --

Thanks for the reply. He has been in this tank for about 2 months, he seemed happy at first but is now quite shy.
On the base I have put reptile sand covering half of one side and wood chipping on the other side.
I will see if I can move the UVB above him and yes it’s a bright white basking lamp.
I only have a stick thermometer not a digital probe.
He has a larger log hide on the right side of the tank that he also uses sometimes

thanks

Ok wood chips are not good either -- if he would happen to ingest one by accident and its sharp it could cause internal injuries -- please get a digital probe thermometer the stick ons are no good for actual basking temps -- you need to place the probe on the basking decor piece that he sits for basking to get a actual temp -- I would invest in a IR gun as well - the probe you can get from petco or petsmart $8 -- the IR gun from your local home improvement store for around $20 it does not haft to be a an expensive one -- basking temps need to be 95-110 for a adult / juvie dragon -- the fixture does it have a reflector and is it a T 8? What brand are you using for a UVB ? Reptisun? Arcadia?

The wood chips are more like wood shavings and are soft, he seems to enjoy that more than the sand.
No the UVB doesn’t have a reflector. It’s a reptisun t8.
I will look at getting a digital probe to check his basking temps

Ok your UVB needs a reflector --- at this point the rays are going everywhere in that tank except to him - the reflector reflects the rays downward towards him --- I would upgrade to another fixture and for the size of the tank I would get a T 5 --- you would need a fixture that is 24" long --- and for a 4x2x2 I would recommend that --- your tank is too big for a 18" fixture --- it would need to go inside the tank approx 12-15 inches directly above him -- this could be another reason he is now not eating --- your basking temps and UVB are the two most important things in that tank -- they control the overall health of the dragon
