HI folks,

I'm a new beardie owner. Thor is about seven months old, a citrus, and very healthy. The woman who took care of him since birth did a great job. He eats dubias, super worms, and crickets like a pig, and also greens of all sorts, and he's super friendly. He's a champion.

I've got him in a 75-gallon tank with a CHE over his hot basking spot that sits at about 105-110F. He seems very happy there. I have a few UTHs on other parts of the enclosure as the basement room that he's in sits about 65F for about half the year and about 70F the other half the year.

So, right now I have the CHE on 24/7, but I'm thinking I should probably put it on a timer and let it shut off at night so he has a cooling period. But the temps in the room are right on the border. Will he be okay with the UTHs also giving him some warmth or should I get a separate, lower wattage CHE for at night that I put further away from him to provide more ambient air warmth? I do have a red bulb, but when I've turned it on he seems anxious. He's just so healthy and happy I don't want to mess him up at all . . .

Thanks for the thoughts . . .
Payton

Do not use the red bulb period.... They can see color and it will bother then while sleeping....

If your temps do not drop below 65 at night time you do not require heat at night....

What light source do you have for him during the day?

Agreed with what was said above. You'll need a nice high basking spot during the day (which is sounds like you have) but also UVB light source to simulate real sunlight.
