So I have a bad problem with empty aquariums and putting pets in them :) I have been breeding African cichlid's for the past 5 years with my frontosa colony being my pride and joy recently made the move to reptiles kinda wanted something that could interact with a bit more and my 2 sons have started showing interest did a bit of research online for about a week or so spent some time looking for a breeder local but no luck and heard some bad stuff on craigslist just so happened petco was running 50% off reptile and zoo med habitats so against my better judgement I bought the "premium bearded dragon habitat" 100$ and a believe to be a female dragon for 30$ as posted in other threads these dragons from petsmart/petco are really in a bad with only a week of research I could plainly see how these poor baby dragons are kept only 85°f unkept humid and wet moss? Loose feeders all over and cricket poo needless to say I had no problem rescuing one of them and taking it home she has been with me a month now and growing like a weed few things I am worried about first off this zoo med premium habitat was such a rip off I'm starting to realize it came with a 5.0 uvb witch is a tropical with the 10.0 being a desert bulb last I checked they were a desert lizard so should I change this out? Also the vitamins they gave me has no d3 should I be giving her that other then that she seems healthy happy she is not to social at this point does not like being handled I'm guessing petco might have scared her a bit might be awhile for her to trust me but I'm working towards it any tricks/tips would help right now I take her out for 10mins every other day and talk to her and hand feed her she has no fear of jumping off my shoulder at 5' that scares me and she has bit me a time or two o well I'll keep at it at least I know she is better off with me.

You should be able to find the answers to the majority of your questions in the following links. Yes, these 'kits' are very ill equipped & yes they do require the 10.0 over the 5.0, particularly if mounted above the screen. The thermometers supplied are also not suited to this application, are inaccurate & do not give you the temps measured in the right areas. Is that the 18x18x36 (40Gal) that you purchased or the 20 Gal? There is a great feeding & supplement schedule in the Basic Care Sheet. If the UVB is setup properly & of the right strength, added Vit D3 should not be necessary, but many of us do offer it orally, in small amounts, just to be on the safer side.

A few good links to help get you started ...

It will outgrow the 20 Gal long before a year old, at a year it will be pretty much full grown, will need to upgrade long before that ;) . You would find that a Roach colony is much easier to maintain & keep alive & are a better feeder for the dragon to boot. Takes quite a while to get a roach colony established enough to feed out of though. Food for thought ...

Repti-Sun 10.0 (10%), Repti-Glo 150 (10%) or the Acadia 10% are all decent choices. If you are using compacts, it is the 25 or 26W 10% bulbs that you want to use, the brands with the 13W are basically nothing more than the old 5.0s, just manufacturer's mind games & marketing ploys.

I keep/feed Discoid Roaches (Blaberus Discoidalis) & Discoids ARE legal to keep & house in Florida. They are very similar to Dubia, exactly the same care & qualities, although female Discoids can get a bit larger than Dubia & I'm told Discoids tend to move a little faster than Dubia.

If you click anywhere on my signature area, it will take you to my website, where there are many videos of my colonies being fed & then being fed to my dragons, if you are interested.
