hello all,

I have a 5 week old Red Hyotrans Leatherback Male.
I purchased from Daichu Bearded Dragons. Has anyone purchased from this breeder?
I have been very pleased so far and they are always available for questions.
This is my 1st dragon and I am hooked! Already planning on my next lol.

Couple questions for the forum and the experienced please. I appreciate all feedback!

1- Anyone purchased from Daichu? How was your experience?

2- I am starting to build the trust factor...he opens mouth and runs when I try and pick him up..I got him Jan. 5th and he is about 6-7 weeks old
Once I have him in my hand, he is all good! He will close his eyes and relax. I try to handle every other day to eliminate stress. Any tips?

3- He is in a Sterlite bin with a basking hot side and cooler other side. The temps are fine and he seems healthy and happy! I am shopping his big boy enclosure now....and good builders please recommend here and if they ship....I am in New Orleans btw.

4- He loves crickets and eats dubias too, although likes the crickets more.
I calcium dust every 2-3 feeding. Mustard greens and blueberries are the veggies and fruits, but I am open to suggestion there, as well as how to get him to eat the salad more....right now I try and get him that in the AM and "make" him eat that before bugs....any tricks there?

5- I mist him once daily, he licks it off his head. Once done licking I stop. He doesn't like baths at this stage really....that normal/ok?

6- I already got the itch for another and want another leatherback(silkies seem cool, but seems like a bit more work and fragility....some breeders I spoke with said they tend to stay away from them. They are cool though, so to each their own!)
Is a micro-scale just in between a leather and silk?
I really like the Citrus coloring, so anyone who can reco a good breede for those, please chime in.

I look forward to responses and being An active member!
Thanks y'all!

Also I see they have threads dedicated to some of the questions I asked...I just wanted to get some current responses from the members.
I will dig through the other threads too, just wanted some action on these specifics!
Thanks again!

welcome. questions are good.
1) no
2) it depends on him - every other day may be too often for some, not enough for others.
3) lots of different options - do a google search for ideas
4) little guys don't typically eat lots of veggies - mostly protein (bugs) if yours is eating greens - good on him! just offer them every day but focus mostly on the bugs until he's at least 6 months
5) normal - he's a bit young for a bath, but once he gets used to you you can introduce him to soaks. some like it some don't
6) yeah - they are addicting. one of our members says she has an empty tank - I would have a real hard time not finding a resident for that tank I think silkies are too fragile. not for me. micro scale? hadn't heard about that. maybe. I like my "regulars" citrus breeder? I got both my kids off of craigslist - kind of like "pound puppies" - nothing special to anyone but me!

check out the links beneath my signature for some awesome information put together by a few of the folks on the forum - GOOD STUFF !!

HAVE FUN !!!

There is so much great info on this forum, I'm not going to limit you by chiming in - but I will share my bathtime experiences!

Skittles absolutely HATED baths for the first several months when he was little. It was so bad I would go days without bathing him because I didn't like stressing him out. Then all of a sudden BAM! he loves bathtime. Literally overnight he changed his mind. I thought it was a fluke at first but no, 6 weeks later he still loves it. I give him belly massages, beard massages, drip water on his head, and swish the water to make a wavepool and he can't get enough of it! So just keep trying, he may surprise you! Interesting sidenote though - he doesn't like baths from my partner, only me. :)
