Hello, 1st off i am new here. I just picked up 2 Beardies from a guy that was moving. They are both 3 years old and one is a male and one is a female. They are in a pretty big aquarium. I have had a dragon about 6 years ago and had to give him away because my apartment did not allow him i only had him for about a year so he was no where near as big as these 2. I am wanting some advice from you all. Should these 2 stay together or will they fight. There owner told me they have been good to each other. but when i got them home they kinda acted like they wanted to fight for a little bit and one jumped on the other one and was biting its head. also he like spit or drooled on the others back. all new to me. but know its been about 4 hours and they have seemed to be friends again.

The aquarium he gave me is pretty good size and has a basking spot on both sides and the uv bulb and 2 heat bulbs. he told me he mainly fed the, vegies and crickets every know and then also he said they like scrambled eggs? lol

also in there cage right know it is sand and it needs changed for sure i know some people are agains sand and some arent what is your opinon? thanks guys any advice i am all ears.

Welcome to the forum!
I'm glad that you rescued these beardies.. Do not house them together they should be apart especially if it's male and a female.. He will mate with her to the point of exhaustion/death... They can turn on eachother very quickly and very violently...
Skip the eggs I mean they can have them but there are way better food items for them.. Take a look at the links below my comment in the signature line that will take you to new comer info in that thread you'll find 2 links for food items that most of us use..
Avoid sand and anything that they can ingest.. just not worth the risk tiles, paper towels, newspaper, shelf liner ... sand can cause eye problems, respiratory issues, harbor bacteria growth, ingestion to impaction and can keep in the smells...

Thanks for the reply. That is what i was worried about is them fighting. i really dont want to have 2 cages by i have a good friend that would like to take one of them. one question i have is should i split them up like that since they have been together for so long?

I will get this cage cleaned out and just use some newspaper if that is okay. i would like to keep the male if possible just so i dont have to worry about laying eggs. i still cant figure out how to tell which one is a boy and which one is the girl i have tried to tell.

Dragons are solitary creatures so they will be happier by themselves with you as their person :)
Newspaper is fine lots of us just use paper towels, tiles, shelf liner or repti carpet... just easy and worry free..
Sexing them is easy especially at their age..
Put them on a flat surface gently lift the tail up if you see 2 ovals at the base of the tail with a space between that's a boy those are his hemipenes...if you see a bump that's a girl... you can also do this in a dark room and shine a flashlight from the top thru the tail you can see their parts..

The one that jumped on the others back and bit it and spit on it is the male. When they mate the males jump at the females and bite them. My guess is the female already has eggs if they were housed together. No way that this wasn't going on when they were in the other persons care.
