I have just acquired a very neglected 3 year old female beardie. Only fed frozen peas and bananas an no water dish, misted when they felt like it. I've already had her to the vet, x-rays and all. She has severe MBD, only one of her legs works, barely. They x-rays were shocking only calcium in her body is in her jaw bone and a tad in her "good" leg, all the other bones were completely drained of calcium. On the up side, we're gonna give it a go to do what we can to help her! I'm giving her daily calcium injections, and TRYING to changer her diet. She will eat some crickets (after I b - head them cuz she can't chase ) and some greens, but I'm supposed to be very sparring on the (turnip/spinthey cach /collard/kale) because there is something in them that in a beardie with this severe form of MBD they can block some of the calcium absorption. So my question is how do I get her to eat fresh veggies and fruits.? I've tried everything. In the last week this is all I've tried.
Gut loading crickets with what she won't eat.
Smothered her leafy greens in baby food fruits and veggies.
Pumpkin puree.
Fresh everything in the habitat all the time include (not all at once)
- red green yellow peppers diced
- cooked beans corn
- broccoli
- squash/ zucchini
- all different fruit
-tried meal worms and nothing
- roaches she liked

Any and all help to get her to eat any of this would be awesome.

Veggies are a tough one. You've got some pretty good tricks there, you just have to keep trying. One thing that works for me is I use hornworms. They stick like velcro to the leafy greens and then Dexter eats the green along with the worm. With the crickets you could put them in a bowl and pull their legs off so they can't jump and they will all be in one place so she doesn't have to hunt. Roaches are a good option too, very nutritious. You could even put the bugs in a bowl and put the salad over the bugs and see if that gets her interested. There is a chart at beautifulbeardies.com that lists good fruits and veggie options and their vitamin contents that would be a good thing to check out if you haven't already.

Welcome to the forum. You are a good person for taking her in. Does she have a name?

Ditto to all that Patsy said. You're not going to change your eating habits or her condition overnight. Time and patience. Bless you

Your best bet are repti-worms as they have more calcium, dust them in calcium powder and give the dragon solar drops. This is the most aggressive fight against mbd. Hornworms are a great alternative but you should avoid fruits and vegies until she has made some progress in her recovery. Instead give organic baby food mixed with calcium powder through a syringe. Good luck.
