Hey guys! I’m getting my first bearded dragon tomorrow and would love advice!
yes, its normal. it just means they are focusing on pray. always check their eyes, it could also be something close to their eye that is bothering them.Is it normal for an 8 week old bearded dragon to keep closing one eye for a few sec he keeps doing it and he’ll leave the other eye wide open?

Bearded Dragon Egg
hi! My name is Isabella! I just got my bearded dragon 4 days ago. He is about 3 weeks old. Some tips about his cage: I recommend NOT using sand. If you feed him/her in the cage and you have sand he could possibly eat the sand along with the cricket... and that could cause infections. I would buy a mat for the cage. Baby beardies must have a cage larger than 20 gallon and an adult around 75 gallons. Make sure you also have a thermostat and something to make sure the humidity doesn’t rise too much. Spray him every day or every other. And clean out his water bowl every day or too. And clean out poop right when you see it!
That’s a lot! But thank you so much for the info! I use a red light for night time... is that ok? Because how else will he stay warm?Hi There, there’s lots to know and need to have all ready before getting the dragon. If it’s a baby u need minimum 20gallon tank with a 75 watt ZooMed basking bulb & an 18inche long tubular Reptisun bulb for UVB. Needs to be ordered from amazon. Reptisun 10.0 T8. Make sure it’s the 10.0 & the T8 ans u need the holder for it too. Beardies need light and bright for energy., they need 12-14 hours of light and UVB. Turn it on and off same time every nite if possible. Also get the tank that has doors in the front that open it will be harder for you if u have to move lights and screams to clean and feed from the top plus they get bothered reaching from the top. Petsmart has them they are great.. Babies/juveniles need 80 prcnt protein. Only feed crickets & dubia roaches dusted in calcium 5 Days a week and herptivite vitamin powder twice a week. Dodnot give dead dried food or any weird worms it’s so bad for their tummy. Also no dead crickets they hate it I put mine ina. Ziplock and pour some calcium in their Enuff to lightly dust them like a ghost and I shake he bag in front of him and pour them in the tank for him slowly to eat. U buy the calcium with phosphorous and herptivite online or at petco or Petsmart. A hydrogometer and a digital ZooMed temp gauge do not buy any other temp strips or dumb stuff they do not work. You will have the hot side typically on the right with the Reptisun in the back and the basking light on the front right side and u need a basking firnitute for him he needs to be like 7imcjes from the basking light and temp should be 100-110 for a baby and for an adult 95-103. The humidity can only be 30-40 percent should never go higher Han 40prcnt if so open windows and remove the water bowl. If the temps aren’t right they won’t eat/or poop and will have no energy. Never feed them until after a minimum of 1 hour of basking their bodies need to be hot in order to eat. And for babies start with a bowl of staples greens/veggies; which is dandelions, collard greens, mustard greens, yellow squash, green beans and snap peas. If u don’t train them now to eat veggies u will have a super duper hard time as they are older and mix it up like 3 greens and 3 veggies diced up teeny so he can eat it and u can sprinkle the veggies twice a week with the herptivite sprinkle like u are sprinkling Salt nice amount on top. I do veggies in the morning and a fresh bowl at 4-5pm and crickets/Dubias 3 Times a day. An hour after the veggies and mod afternoon and evening Like 7pm. Last feeding they need to bask for 2 hours so do not turn off the lights they need 2hours of basking which suggests there food. Try and keep the same time for lights on and lights off everyday and same with feeding time and u have to shake the veggies in don’t of him u can place some on your hand and let him eat of your hand also this gains trust w/them. Dice it small he is little and u don’t want him to choke. Crickets 2-3 times a day u feed until he’s done eating and jumps back up on his basking spot. They need lots of protein with calcium for their bones and uVb to digest the calcium/D3. When they turn in adults like 2years old u need 60-70 veggies and 30prcmt crickets, Dubias, superworms ans Hornworms as adults only as adults the worms. For hydration hey need baths twice per week minimum when they are shedding u can give more It helps with the shedding but never peel they’re skin let it fall off on its own. Luke warm water only for 15min minimum and water has to be filtered or bottled or buy Reptisafe and it’s 2drops for every cup of water. Cold side of the tank place their food bowl and teeny water bowl and a smaller basking firnitirw for them to sit too. For the flooring DONOT use sand or coconut substarte they ingest it and it impacts them. U can buy smooth shelf liner from target or wallmart it’s beige in color and padded and amazing!! Or paper towels. At Night they need complete dark; The cannot have light. No colored bulbs ever temps should be above 70 for a baby it should be around 78-80 u can get a ceramic heat emitter which produces heat but no light. U can buy him a log to sleep under or even put him under so he is also covered at night. Or a little hideaway house typically u can buy a basking firniture that has a hideaway to escape the light sometimes and too sleep under. During the day & in general they like quiet in general they had loud noise. Poop needs to be wiped up ASAP., they hate it they will go crazy and if they step in it warm water and paper towels and wipe him. Try and have the Tank ready before bringing him or u will have a hard time. Also his reflection u can get tropical palm teees paper from Petsmart or u can get yellow cardboard paper school folders or yellow cardboard and cover 3 walls of the tank and leave the front open to cover his reflection cuz he will go crazy. So cover it now before placing him inside. Cleaning the tank keep it clean natural wet wipes hypoallergenic with no alcohol to wipe the poop or warm paper towels and to clean the tank or poop on their furniture take it out and spray it with 10parts water and 1part bleach, let it sit till it dries then drench it in water and pour hot water on it to kill the smell. Smells and chemicals can hurt a Beardie. Once a month u deep clean the tank spray with the bleac till it dries then Brian it in hot water with hot rags and wipe completely. If the dragon gets stressed Pic him up and hold him at anytime and when he gets 3 months or so he can sit out with you onthe rak Heat ans UVb the sun and hang out that’s the best for them too I take mine out for an hour or two if it’s hot outside but watch him, sit next to him or lay him on you, he will run & crows/hawks will get him and he cannot eat anything outside they love to eat or try to bigs ans leaves!! That’s a big NONO. But yes they need exercise too as they get a bit bigger when small they can run in the tank and ideally u want a 40 gallon tank with a 100 watt bulb and 36inche Reptisun or as a big adult a 75 gallon tank with a 150 watt bulb and 48 inch Reptisun. That’s when he gets bigger like 6-9months Old or soo. Hope this helps!! I rescue so I know most everything u can reach out again to me or privately and I can give u my number but get the tank set up and the temps handles ASAP. Check it with the gauge the ZooMed digital thermometer it’s called and the round balck hygomwmter and u need one on the hot ans the cold but the hot is want I need to make certain pull the balck string and let it sit on the basking firniture to test the temp before putting him in there. If he’s not basking there’s an issue. U mote need to raise the basking bulb or lower it to get it just right.
NO colored lights ever red, blue black they are super bad for the eyes and they need complete dark at nite. Temp should be 70 or above. U can buy a ceramic heat Emitter it’s a heat lamp with no light I wrote about it in my response to you. Also temp should be 70 and above if a baby u can use the ceramic heat emitter check the temps in the morning of what the digital thermometer says on the hot side or side he sleeps on. But a ceramic heat emitter is what u can get. What city are u in? Are u in orange or la County? That’s a lot! But thank you so much for the info! I use a red light for night time... is that ok? pet supply plus a good pet store said to use a night lamp. So do I have to buy a ceramic heat emitter?
But he needs heat. So do I have to get a light that produces heat and no light? Is there such a thing?!No lights at all at nite. They need total darkness for at least 12 hours. That's why we say with the lights 12 hrs on and 12 hrs off.
So they will be ok without one?! That would be greatYou can get a heat emitter but it is not really needed. They regulate there body temperature during the nite when lights off. They are good in there habitat even down to 55 degrees. They do it in the wild and I have had no problems at all here in Michigan.
Hows it going ? Hope all is well when I got mine I started following lizard guru on YouTube great advice very trustworthy and knowledgeable!!Hey guys! I’m getting my first bearded dragon tomorrow and would love advice!
