Hi,

I am Dave and am a new member. I live in California and just adopted a young bearded dragon whose name is Ananda. Was at the pet store for a different reason and was shown Ananda while shopping. He just looked up at me with one eye with a look like "Get me out of here". So.. he made the journey from his 5 gallon tank at Petsmart a shiny new 40 gallon tank all his own complete with several water dishes, a couple of trees and hides.

I am trying to get up to speed on temps, feeding, and general care. I came to this forum because it seemed like I was seeing a lot of contradictory info on the net in different ask.com posts, etc about topics that seem important to the health of my new little guy (gal?). When in this situation a forum full of people with the same love is a good place to be to get good info and have success in one's endeavors.

I will attach a photo.

David

Welcome, this forum does have plenty of great information. I'm new to the forum as well and have spent hours here catching up since I got my two dragons. My Archer looks a lot like him/her in coloration. They make great pets and grow pretty fast.

AWE, what a cutie! That's how they suck you in. With that little head tilt and the eye!

I had Dexter and wasn't really planning on a 2nd one but then went to the pet store and saw Luci give me that eye and I had to get him. Dolly was a little different story. She was a rescue in a 20 gallon with a red light and filth. I had no choice but to save her.

Thanks.. I think that's sweet that you saved a Bearded Dragon. I can't imagine what it was like living in a 20 gallon tank :-(. Mine's a baby and I had bought one of those ten gallon kits. He had no room to run around so I immediately upgraded to a 40. Not sure what I'll do when he gets big. Which may be soon.. he eats like a horse.

I was at Petco with Dexter and they kept talking about "Paco" so they showed me Paco. The story was he was left in an apartment and the landlord found him and brought it to the store. They were adopting it out for $20 and you get EVERYTHING. So I posted on FB and my friend talked me into bringing it home. I went back to the store with my boyfriend and we discovered he was a she and very sweet so we named her Dolly. We ended up tossing the tank and all the decor before we got in the house, she smelled so bad everything was gross. Since then we've fattened her up and she's turned into a little butterball

You should be just fine with the 40 gal is it a square breeder tank? if so that's the min size for an adult.. He is a cutie with great colors.
