hello everyone!!! I will be adopting a 2 year old female bearded dragon in Saturday or Sunday. This will be my first dragon! I already have a box turtle so feeding won't be that much trouble :)
Anything I should know before I bring her in? Beginners mistakes? Articles? Thank you again! I am so excited to get her!

I wish I could set up everything before she comes!! But I am getting her with everything from the person. The original owner is giving her to me with the tank and accessories and her. Normally I would set up the tank and get everything set up before I get the reptile. I will be asking a ton of questions as I get to know her! It is not too late to establish a bond with her is it? She is about 2 years old.

well - hopefully everything will be pretty close to what it should be !! IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TOO LATE to establish a bond. I have not yet had a beardie from baby. all of mine have been adults. my current male I've named Dennis cuz he's all over the place and likes to run and hide (aka dennis the menace) but my female Bella loves to be held. give it time

I am super excited then! I will give her a few days to get settled in the house. Hopefully she is friendly and warms up to me. this will be my first dragon but 3rd reptile! I do have one question. Are coiled light bulbs okay for dragons? The coiled ones cause blindness to turtles and box turtles but I am not sure about bearded dragons.

ahh - lighting is not my forte. I got what I got and I sticks with it. BUT -- there are some folks on the forum that have put together some truly awesome info for those of us not so in the know - check out the links below. and - am sure someone with brighter insight (sorry - couldn't help myself) will probably chime in.

Coiled bulbs are not good for dragons for the UVB. Need to get either a T8 or T5 long bulb.

No coil bulbs are not good for dragons as it's the same they cause eye damage. Your best off getting a T5 HO 10.0 tube style bulb as this can penetrate thru a wire mesh top.
Look forward to seeing pictures and just go slow and let her settle in..

Thank you everyone for you advice. Sadly the person never got back to me and it has been 2 days since they have responded to me. Sadly I will not be getting the poor dragon. I do plan I getting a bearded dragon, but I will now set up a proper enclosure and then get one. I first have to decided if I want to start with a baby or get an adult. I will cross that bridge when I get there. Thank you again

Personal opinion here, I'd get a young adult for your first dragon. It just seems easier and if done right, you know the history and everything.
At the very youngest, maybe 6 months old? But again, this is only my opinion so others may have other ideas :)
Sorry to hear about the adoption gone awry.

Yeah i am bum that i didn't get her but I am okay. When is the youngest they can get sexed? I am kinda leaning towards getting a male just so I can avoid eggs (fertile or infertile). And I am also planning on getting a younger one so I can create a good bond and know all about him or her.

To be honest that will vary depending on angle, thickness of the base of the tail.. The most accurate would be to do the flash light method in a dark room. You "should" be able to see hemipenes or the lack of them with just a mound in the middle for female.
