So I took Dexter to Petco to see Santa today and there was a rescue beardie named Paco. He was left in an apartment after the tenants moved out and the landlord brought him to the store. For a $20 donation he came with his tank, decor and lights. After posting on a bearded dragon FB page, I decided to take him myself! Took the boyfriend to pick him up and it turns out Paco is a girl. Here's some pictures and the picture of Dexter.

The tail really is cute. Since it's a girl we were thinking of calling her Peg, like Peg Leg only she's missing part of her tail but we haven't come up with a name yet.

We actually decided on Dolly! The doll in Ruldolph the Red nosed Reindeer that lived on the Island of Misfit Toys was named Dolly. We thought our beardie was kinda like a misfit toy getting left behind.

I can't believe someone left her behind. She was obviously taken care of before she was left. When I put her in the bath she doesn't get scared and actually will close her eyes when I drip water down her head. She let me trim her nails today without even giving stink eye! She's real hungry though. They told us at Petco that she loved crickets but I didn't believe them. She ate 20 of them right out of a cup, she practically crawled right into it! She's going to be huge when she grows into her body. :) The only problem we have is she stinks :( I gave her a bath yesterday and today and scrubbed her real good and put some coconut oil in her bath and she still smells a bit. I'm going to order some beardie soap online and try that.

We haven't introduced her to Luci yet but we've let Dexter see her. Dexter could care less but Dolly is curious.

Dolly is fitting! Welcome to your new home Dolly! And a way better home..It looks like in the picture that they did care for her by that house was that her's prior? To go thru all that work to raise her only to leave her? gggrrrr! makes me mad they could have taken her to the petstore! Well maybe once she's gained her weight back she won't like crickets? right now she's just starving as it looks like all her reserves are gone. no fat pads and those legs are not all chubby :)
wonder why she stinks soo much? how long was she alone? maybe once she sheds and you get the cleaner that will go away?

I don't know how long she was alone. It couldn't have been long because she doesn't act feral or scared of everyone. Even with Sasha the cat sitting in front of her tank she's fine. I'm thinking once she sheds, which she's starting to do, the smell will go away. She also has some blue stains on her back feet and tail, I think she was on newspaper. The whole tank was bad, we actually just tossed everything except the lights. The tank had a big chunk missing on the side and my BF cut his hand on it. The lid was kinda damaged too. When I held her the first time at the store I was like "oh, she's stinks" and they just smiled and nodded in agreement. Instead of doing something for her they just left her in it. She smells like cats peed on her! When we got her home we put her in our 20 gallon breeder and used Bumbles old UVB light. I'm going to keep my eyes open for her bigger tank. We always end up bringing them home AFTER the black Friday deals! Dexter was the only one we planned around the sales!

I'm going to keep giving her crickets for the time being and slowly introduce her to supers. I don't want to shock her system just yet with supers. I have horn worms and wax worms and a few butterworms left so we are going to let her eat whatever she wants.

She hit the jackpot congratulations to both of you.

She is awesome! She's the perfect mix of Luci and Dexter. She's very calm and likes to sit and cuddle but she also likes to run around like a crazy dragon! It's weird that she's so hydrated her urate is runny and she has perfect formed poops but she's still so skinny and so empty feeling. I'm wondering if she maybe laid eggs

She's starting to shed her lips and her head, i'm hoping that she starts to shed her body feet soon and maybe that will help get some of the stink off of her. Her tank when we got it smelled like animals peed on her, it was so gross.

Awe that's awesome that she is doing well and is fitting in so nicely! That's how Izzy's urates are they are rarely hard they are usually semi soft to pretty soft, with perfectly tubular shaped packages :) But OMG dragon poop is rank! lol but then again if I ate roaches and collard greens mine would be too I guess. lol
I was wondering with how skinny she is that maybe she did lay eggs but then why would they say she was a he? you would think they would have come across eggs at some point. ??
I hope that when she sheds her body she will shed the stink!

The store would have gotten her after she laid eggs so they wouldn't know. It would maybe explain why she was left. She may have been purposely bred for the eggs or whoever owned her didn't know females laid eggs and got freaked out and didn't want to deal with it.

She's growing pretty good. I weighed her Friday and she was up 24g! She got her big girl tank and she's settling in to it. Still eats like a pig but she is starting to stop herself from over eating. Today I let her run around the dining room for the first time, she was a little scared but she'll get used to it in no time!

So today she's deciding to be picky. I fed her about 30 crickets for breakfast that she ate like they were going out of style. Tried to give her some for lunch and she's refusing them. I gave her some freshly molted supers and she chomped them down! Guess now that her belly is getting full she's choosing what she eats LOL!

She's pretty. I'm glad your knowledgeable about females. I would be so nervous about the egg part.

I'm nervous about the egg part too. Dexter has never laid eggs. Dolly has this pear shaped body and I was talking to the owner of our reptile store yesterday and telling him that we suspected that she has laid eggs before we got her and he asked me if her body was pear shaped and he told me that it's likely she did lay them or she is going to :( My hunch is that she laid them and the previous owners got scared and that's why they abandoned her.

I'm more afraid of female chameleons than I am female beardies. Chams always lay eggs.

I don't want any female reptiles. Too worrisome for me. If it was a rescue situation I'd take a female in . I'm almost sure my female chameleon was making eggs so the mbd took her fast. Seymore is shedding today and not happy and doesnt want any help.

Yea I worry about Izzy laying eggs I hope she doesn't... She is mid shed right now, her left front leg was almost peeled off and she was trying hard running around her tank to get it off I could tell she was pissed at it her beard was getting black so I peeled it off and boom back basking :)
